On St. Nicholas Day, the players of the MOBA Paragon are gifted with various changes in the Monolith update.
Paragon, the open-beta MOBA from Epic Games for PC and PS4, reinvents itself today on December 6 and presses the “reset” button. The Monolith update is being released.
The exciting, tactical, fast, and risky gameplay that was intended from the start was, according to the developers, not achieved.
They were simply not satisfied with what they had created. Above all, the overly large map caused many other issues. Therefore, “Legacy” will be removed from the game indefinitely and replaced by the new map “Monolith”.
Goodbye, classic role distribution
Although Paragon still aims to be a MOBA and not a hero shooter, it bids farewell to the classic role distribution. Instead of a clear designation as “carry,” each hero is attributed multiple traits that are meant to reflect their entire range of use cases.
For instance, Gideon has the traits “burst,” “assassin,” “ungraspable,” and “siege.” These terms are detailed on the official Paragon homepage.
Essentially, the primary trait of a character is mentioned first. In our example with Gideon, this means that he can deal a lot of damage in a short time. “Ungraspable” can be found under each hero as a trait who possesses some kind of “dodge ability.” Be it Gideon’s teleport, Iggy & Scorch’s “oil slick,” or Gadget’s “speed gate.”
General changes
In addition to the aforementioned innovations, there are many other extensive changes. These include
- the damage dealt and the armor,
- updates to over 100 cards,
- significantly reduced cooldowns,
- faster base movement speed and execution of abilities,
- an adjustment of all previously released heroes.
If you want to learn more about this, be sure to check out our Paragon article, where we cover the mentioned changes in more detail.
#EveryThreeWeeks
Since the closed beta release of Paragon in mid-March 2016, a new character, playable for free by everyone, has been released every three weeks. As luck would have it, a new hero is also coming with today’s comprehensive update. However, this time, the new character is an old friend from the very beginning.
Twinblast, the firearms-focused gunslinger, receives a complete overhaul. In addition to the affinity “rage,” he now also has “growth” available to further develop his card deck and thus his abilities. With “rapid fire,” he unleashes three standard attacks in quick succession.
As a second ability, he has been given grenades, which have three charges, regenerate themselves after a short cooldown, and detonate at the targeted point after a brief delay.
However, perhaps the most notable change concerns his ultimate. Where Twinblast previously fired several strong shots at slow intervals, “bullet storm” temporarily transforms his weapons into a kind of machine gun. However, this ability can be interrupted by enemy influence.
A new heroine named “Serath” is also ready to debut. This winged and club-wielding heroine, however, will only make her debut on January 10. After the holidays, things will continue in the familiar release rhythm.
Double rewards
To celebrate the release of “Monolith” and all the changes it brings, since December 5th until December 12th, you can earn double the reputation and experience per game.
Additionally, there are some festive free skins in the current “Winter Festival” with a bit of luck. The perfect time for new and veteran Paragon players to familiarize themselves with the new map and system.
