Zhin, the Tyrant, belongs to the Flanker class in Paladins (PC, PS4, Xbox). He should quickly get to the enemy’s backline and eliminate single targets. We have selected two decks that can ideally fulfill this role for Zhin in Paladins. Additionally, there are tips for Zhin’s gameplay and items.
Zhin has a skill set that gives him a good chance to win duels and break through the enemy frontline. His Burst Damage and higher survivability especially help him stay longer in the fight and eliminate enemies. Thus, the Tyrant can become a disruptor.

Zhin’s Counter Deck: Increase Defense & Disrupt Opponents
The first deck we present focuses primarily on Zhin’s skill “Counter”.
The deck was developed by Vox, the eSports specialist for Paladins at Studio Hi-Rez. With this build, you can perform many disruptions, as it significantly increases Zhin’s defense.
For the Counter Deck, you need the following legendary card.
- Reckoning – Strengthens the skill Counter
- Zhin’s Counter triggers the following effect: Enter a counter position for 2 seconds. If you are hit from the front, all effects of the hit are negated and you perform a melee counter that deals 700 damage.
- Card description: After countering an attack, you remain in the counter position
Advantages of the legendary card Reckoning:
- Zhin can stay in the counter position after already countering an attack
- While Reckoning is equipped, Zhin’s opponents are punished severely for firing repeatedly
- Zhin gains tank status. He can act as a shield and protect allies or block opponents at chokepoints
- Team fights can be disrupted and areas controlled. This makes the skill Counter a mobile disruption unit
Zhin’s Counter Deck – Loadout Build
This Loadout Deck primarily enhances the skills Counter and Smoke Clouds. With this, you get a higher chance of survival and can cause more chaos.
These loadout cards are needed for Zhin’s Counter Deck:
Card: Mastery IV – The duration of Counter is increased by 1 second (Counter)
- Effective addition to the legendary card Reckoning
- Total duration of Counter is increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds
- Zhin’s disruptions can be extended
Card: Footwork III – While Counter, movement speed increases by 30%. (Counter)
- More mobility
- Increased movement speed provides better escape chances when using Counter defensively
- Better chances to catch an escaping opponent
Card: Blade Dance III – Increases the distance of Whirl by 45% (Whirl)
- Zhin’s weapon is effective at close range, which quickly puts him in danger
- By increasing the range, Zhin can maintain a safe distance.
- Escape chances for Zhin are increased
Card: Perfect Block I – On a successful counter, you heal 100 LP (Counter)
- Enemies firing at Zhin while Counter is active will restore his health. Practical, as this deck is focused on counters
- The card’s rank can be increased depending on the situation. Barik’s turrets, for example, fire automatically, making a high rank sensible here
Card: Hidden II – The duration of Smoke Clouds is increased by 1 second (Smoke Clouds)
- In combination with Mastery IV, Smoke Clouds and Counter now give Zhin 6.5 seconds in which he is nearly invulnerable
- Works particularly effectively in combination with Chronos – the item that reduces cooldowns
Zhin’s “Forever Fire” Deck: Significantly Increase Reload Speed
This deck is more aggressive than the counter deck mentioned above. This build is designed to keep firing at opponents continuously and build pressure. The deck comes from the Paladinsdecks site and was created by the user Arkemys.
These legendary cards do you need for the “Forever Fire” Deck.
- Smoldering Fire – Strengthens the skill Smoke Clouds
- Smoke Clouds triggers this effect: Dissolve into smoke and become un-targetable. Your movement speed increases by 20% for 2.5 seconds
- Card description: Heal 60% of your maximum LP during the duration of Smoke Clouds.
Advantages of Smoldering Fire:
- Can restore Zhin’s full health
- Allows for an aggressive playstyle due to higher health
Zhin’s “Forever Fire” Loadout Deck
This Loadout Deck increases Zhin’s reload speed and extends the effective use of Smoke Clouds. In combination with the legendary card, Smoldering Fire, you can play aggressively while healing yourself.
These cards do you need for Zhin’s “Forever Fire” Loadout Deck:
Card: Dragon Oil III: Your ammunition counter increases by 3 (Armor)
- Is particularly effective with increased reload speed
- Ensures constant fire
Card: Malice III: Your reload speed increases by 20% (Armor)
- Especially brutal in combination with Dragon Oil
- Has the same effect as the item Quick Hands (Deft Hands). Therefore allows room for other items.
Card: Ignite II: Kills reduce the cooldown of Smoke Clouds by 50% (Smoke Clouds)
- In combination with the legendary card Smoldering Fire, Zhin’s escape and survival chances are increased
- Enables an aggressive playstyle
Card: Hidden II: The duration of Smoke Clouds is increased by 1 second (Smoke Clouds)
- Life points are regenerated by 84% instead of 60%
Card: Blade Dance I: Increases the distance of Whirl by 15% (Whirl)
- Allows you to get into a fight and back out quickly
- Can also be replaced by Explode I or Infamy I
Quick Tips for Zhin: Gameplay & Team Compositions
A few quick tips on Zhin’s gameplay and in which team compositions he works best.
- Zhin performs well alongside champs that deal area damage (Evie, Bomb King). He himself mainly deals direct damage.
- Zhin has problems with flying champs, like Drogoz. Damage dealers that counter flying champs (Cassie, Lian) mitigate his weakness.
- Zhin is particularly strong in 1v1 duels. Try to attack isolated enemies and avoid tanks.
- Displace the damage dealer and support from their team. Use it when they retreat to heal.
- Use Zhin’s Counter against automatic projectiles (Barik).
- You don’t need to score a kill to be useful to the match. Confusing and disrupting the enemies is often enough to positively impact a match.
