Overwatch – A vision of the future with positive energy
Blizzard sends over Overwatch its own game to the race, which is also the first foray of the developer into the realm of first-person shooters. Already at the BlizzCons of previous years, one could get a first impression of the game; meanwhile, the hero shooter is in closed beta and will be released in May. The team size increases to 6 in this game, which, according to the developers, should ensure that individual team members are somewhat “less relevant” for the overall victory but can still have a “great impact” on a match.
In total, you can choose from 21 vibrant characters, all set in the future vision of the real world. The heroes are equipped with several abilities and a special “ultimate” that can significantly change the course of battle. The individual rounds, in which control points are captured or deliveries are escorted, are usually over after 10 minutes, making a match excellent to play even with little time.

One of the most important aspects of Overwatch is the ability to change the played hero after each death in your own base. Thus, it is permanently possible to readjust to the opposing team to exploit any weaknesses that can then be countered by the other team.
This gives the game a new dynamic and allows players to turn seemingly lost rounds around. The possibility of having multiple identical characters in one team also allows for many tactical but above all fun opportunities to add a whole new appeal to the game.
DLCs – What is there after the launch?
Also with Overwatch, it is far from over after the launch. While no concrete plans have been published yet, the developers have indicated in several places that there will still be further heroes, maps, and game modes.
Especially the “ranked game mode” is still on the to-do list and is to be submitted as soon as possible. Another promise has also been made: heroes, maps, and game modes in Overwatch will remain completely free. Those who paid for the game will receive these contents for free.
Blizzard will not under any circumstances split the player base and believes that such essential content should be accessible to all. However, they are keeping a backdoor open, as microtransactions are indeed planned, such as with loot boxes. Whether there will also be targeted skins to buy is still unknown and will probably only be revealed in the months after the release.
Ultimately, all the mentioned games have their strengths and weaknesses. Paladins will probably be a worthwhile experience for penny pinchers – after all, it will be the only free-to-play game. Overwatch and Battleborn will be full-price titles.
If you appreciate the usual high quality from Blizzard and can indulge in the positive atmosphere with many unlockable extras, then Overwatch is a good choice.
However, if you are looking for an exciting story that is best experienced with several friends in co-op, then Battleborn is likely the hero shooter of choice.
All 3 games promise fun for many hours – how deeply you want to reach into your pocket for that is something everyone must decide for themselves.
