Leya has tested Paladins new flanker Maeve and felt like the killer rubber ball. Here are her impressions of the new champion.
Maeve has entered Paladins and is probably one of the most fun champions I have ever played. She is a flanker and is not only very popular with me but among many players already.
Maeve’s entire kit is designed for mobility and you should exploit that mercilessly with her.
Her combination currently deals significant damage, and I suspect this will be toned down in a future patch. With her “Pounce” ability, Maeve dashes forward. If she hits an opponent, they take massive damage. With “Nine Lives,” Maeve regains health and the cooldown of “Pounce” is reduced.
Maeve is not a cat, but a killer rubber ball
I was especially successful when I picked off opponents with low health and dealt the finishing blow with Pounce. This works even if you dive into a larger group.
You have enough evasion traits to run or jump away from the enemies right in front of you. Maeve also has an ability that gives her more speed and jump height.
I didn’t feel like a cat, but like a wild rubber ball. While playing, I noticed that Maeve can easily jump over high walls and has a double jump. I was literally flying back and forth with her, dodging enemies, hurling my daggers around me, and causing confusion and chaos. I was the killer rubber ball.
And that’s exactly what makes her incredibly fun to play. Anyone who enjoys a playful playstyle should definitely give her a try.
Maeve is fast but has low health
Despite her extremely high mobility, I had to position myself cleverly with Maeve. She has very low health and can be easily taken out with 1-2 skillful shots. A good Makoa can catch her with his hook and finish her off within seconds. It also gets tricky when slowed down or stuck by Pip or Bomb King.
Is Maeve now Paladins best flanker?
Maeve deals substantial damage for a flanker and is hard to catch. In 1vs1, I was able to take out most enemy flankers. She will probably be played often now and push out other flankers a bit – especially since she is new.
However, I still had trouble against a good Skye since Maeve can’t take much damage. You also have to hit with her skill shots. But if you land her full combo, hardly any opponent stands a chance of survival. Currently, I would assess her as a very strong flanker but not unbeatable.
I will probably build a loadout deck with her next that gives her more health.
