Are you new to Paladins and not sure which heroes to play at the beginning? Here we present champions from each role that are suitable for starting in Paladins.
Paladins’ roles in a quick overview:
- Tank: The frontline is responsible for capturing and protecting objectives like the payload or the center point.
- Damage: These champions are meant to significantly weaken and eliminate enemies. They need to drive opponents away from objectives and force them to retreat.
- Flank: Flankers try to infiltrate the enemy’s backline. They are designed to pick off individual targets like the enemy support and eliminate them as quickly as possible.
- Support: The supporters heal their team and hinder opponents. They usually have CC properties and can protect their team.

Frontline: Fernando – The classic tank with a big shield
Fernando has the deadliest weapon in the entire game: his damn good looks!
In addition to his good looks, the self-proclaimed knight has weapons and traits that come closest to a classic tank in Paladins:
- a powerful shield
- a charge
- high health
- immortality as an ultimate skill
Fernando is quick and easy to understand. He has a massive shield behind which the entire team can seek safety. Moreover, the shield withstands strong attacks for a long time. This makes Fernando ideal for capturing and defending objectives. It takes a lot of firepower to eliminate the knight or force him to retreat.
Fernando’s role is therefore simple to fulfill, yet the knight has a significant impact as a defender.
With his charge, Fernando quickly dives into battle and deals slight damage to enemies he hits. This allows him to quickly position himself in front of his allies and activate his shield. He plays supportively.
When things get tough, Fernando can activate his ultimate ability “Immortal”. This gives him and nearby allies a tremendous defensive boost. For a few seconds, Fernando and his team cannot be eliminated while this skill is active. A last-minute rescue or the signal to attack.
Despite his strong tank traits, Fernando is also flexible in use. He possesses a flame lance and throws fireballs, making Fernando a valuable support even as a damage tank. It depends on your deck build whether you play Fernando more defensively or offensively.
Damage: Lian – The princess with the auto-aim rifle
Lian is an extremely dangerous offensive heroine, also favored by professionals. Nevertheless, she is suitable for beginners as she is an easy-to-learn heroine with which you can quickly win duels.
The princess has traits that make her a solid and secure beginner champ:
- 2 auto-aim abilities that deal heavy damage: Bravery and Grace
- A powerful ultimate that grants Lian immunity to damage and CC.
Lian excels at her role as a damage champ:
- With her fast and steady firepower, she melts tanks with ease and drives them away from the objective.
- With her auto-aim properties, Lian has strong advantages in duels against aggressive flankers
Lian’s ultimate ability “Enlightenment” is particularly strong. The princess gains immunity to damage and CC while firing a massive shot in any direction that penetrates opponents. If she kills an enemy with Enlightenment, Lian receives a reduced cooldown on her ultimate skill.
Lian is a standard champion similar to Viktor, who is also a good choice for beginners. With her auto-aim and extremely high firepower, she has a greater chance of winning duels and eliminating enemies before being eliminated herself.
Support: Seris – The supporter with the strongest single healing
Seris is particularly practical for beginners among the supports in Paladins. The dark oracle, with her skill “Soul Renewal”, is the only supporter who possesses a healing beam.
Seris’ strong healing is intuitive and her skills are easy to hit:
- Seris’ “Soul Renewal” is the strongest healing in the entire game when it comes to healing a single target.
- The healing is executed with a simple click. The champion to be healed just needs to be targeted.
- Seris does not have a skill that requires her to aim well
Supporters need to calculate their cooldowns well. They must quickly decide which ally to help or which enemy to hinder. Here, Seris has a bit more leeway than other supporters in Paladins.
Seris’ movement ability “Shadow Travel” makes her invulnerable and invisible! This means that the supporter is extremely difficult to catch and can quickly find safety. This allows you to play her a bit more aggressively or recklessly.
Seris’ attack consists of floating orbs. It is quite easy to hit with these projectiles, as they remain in the air and stick to enemies. With these soul spheres, Seris can deal significant damage and score some kills herself – also a way to support the team.
Seris’ ultimate ability “Convergence” creates a rift in reality that pulls all enemies towards it. Now the enemies are stuck for a few seconds and can be shot at will. No aim is required for this either. The most difficult part to learn here is to catch the right moment, which comes with experience.
Flank: Lex – Has Magnums with auto-aim & ultimate with insta-kill
Lex is a flanker who has built-in auto-aim, an easy-to-hit insta-kill, and he can reveal a champion. Additionally, he has solid mobility, which is particularly important for a flanker.
Lex’ skills are excellent for eliminating single targets:
- Lex’ “Hunt” has high damage and built-in auto-aim. He fires quickly and accurately at the next target.
- With his mobility skill “Battle Slide”, Lex moves quickly in the direction he is looking. The range is high and the cooldown low – ideal for escaping.
- Lex can reveal at least one champion with “Retribution” and see it through walls. This can support in killing or fleeing.
- His ultimate triggers an insta-kill on enemies with 65% health or less. This skill also has auto-aim but does not go through walls or shields.
Lex’ entire skill set is solid for someone looking to learn the flanker role. Flankers like Evie or Talus require more experience and skill compared to execute quick kills.
Lex can quickly get to the backline with his Battle Slide, land a quick kill with his auto-aim properties, and safely slide back out. What beginners should note with Lex: The reveal from Retribution does not mean you should blindly chase the revealed enemy. This can quickly lead to your own death without the necessary experience.
Another beginner-friendly flanker is Skye. The assassin has many escape options and can attack perfectly from ambush.
