A new image brings joy to the Ranger players of Guild Wars 2. The first image of the elite specialization has been released!
Directly from the wilderness
Slowly, the circle of elite specializations of Guild Wars 2 is closing. With the expansion Heart of Thorns, all characters gain access to new abilities, including the Ranger. An image on Twitter is now causing wild speculation – as some details were revealed months ago.
If the information from back then is still correct, it suggests: The new specialization will be the Druid, and apparently, (s)he will fight with a staff. In the background, several large creatures can be recognized, hinting at the Druid’s companions, such as a dinosaur. The decorations at the end of the staff also lead players on reddit to suspect that the new abilities will revolve around animal helpers.
In the coming days, we can certainly expect a detailed presentation of the Druid.
For more on the other elite specializations and the Heart of Thorns expansion, you can find it on our Guild Wars 2 topic page.

In the MMO shooter Destiny there are new videos of the week. The first with “King of the Taken.”
Normally, Monday night is video night for us, where we showcase the best clips of the week. Last Monday, we used the evening for something else. Everyone was excited about King of the Taken and wasn’t very keen to see the videos chosen by Bungie from the previous week. This time it’s different: There is new gear. And it wants to be used creatively!
This clip was chosen by Bungie as the video of the week. It shows “old content,” but combined with new possibilities. Man, it so deserves it. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

If the hero can die of old age, then it shows that the MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria wants to offer something special.
There are many MMORPGs on the market, making it difficult for developers to find a niche and attract players to their product. The Soulbound Studios aim to achieve this through a realistic sandbox world. In Chronicles of Elyria, you create a hero whose path in the world you define.
The character creation can already be impressive. And that is just the head.
Do you want to become a renowned blacksmith or a bandit who ambushes other players in the woods? Do you wish to explore the lands and delve into dark dungeons? You have almost no limits. It is even possible to rise from a simple farmer to the ruler of an entire dynasty. Then strategy elements come into play, as you’ll need to manage resources and the kingdom.
However, ambition always comes with risks. Only if you are willing to take high risks, you will have the ability to significantly change the fate of the world through your actions.
Even heroes die of old age
This also applies to your hero. As time passes, he ages and can even die. The older your character becomes, the more it shows. He gets gray hair, men grow beards, wrinkles appear on the face… If the hero dies, he is permanently dead – permadeath is the rule. Therefore, you should consider having children, as part of your abilities will be inherited. The lifespan of a hero is about one real year.
You develop the character through a free skill system; there are no classes. However, your personal skill and coordination are also important. For example, a blacksmith creates items through mini-games, and you swing your sword yourself; there are no auto-attacks.
Dynamic stories
The graphics impress in the first images.
Although Chronicles of Elyria is a sandbox game, there are also stories that you can experience. However, these conform to the sandbox elements. There are no predetermined quests. Instead, the developers have created an AI-based story engine that generates its own stories, taking into account the status of the world and the heroes. For example, a journey through the desert may develop into a small story, or events can evolve due to the players’ actions, potentially leading to great wars.
Even the developers cannot predict these stories. Moreover, they aim for a certain degree of realism. Wandering into the wilderness without a map can result not only in being attacked by wild animals, other players, or monsters but also in running out of food and water. If you want to send a message to other players, you hire a courier. But whether you can trust him is another story…
The Proteus engine is designed to support the game, making it feel like a realistic simulation.
The MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria is expected to be released in 2016. For each character’s lifespan, a certain amount (likely between 20 and 40 dollars) will need to be paid. Therefore, you must pay money every year to continue playing, as heroes live for a maximum of one year. You can find more information about the game on the official website: chroniclesofelyria.com.

The F2P MMO Dragon’s Dogma Online will soon be expanded – fresh raids and a brand new class await!
More Content in Japan
We have already reported a little about the Japanese MMO Dragon’s Dogma Online in the past few weeks, such as about the successful launch and the impressive numbers. At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom presented new content that will be coming to players very soon. The patch 1.1 (or Season 1.1, as the developers call it) brings some forest areas where new bosses await and also an 8-player raid where a gigantic treant must be defeated.

The new class will be the Elemental Archer. Unlike an ordinary hunter, the newcomer does not use arrows! Instead, he fires with elemental projectiles that not only deal damage but can also heal. “I’ll heal you to death” seems to be quite a serious threat. It is also special that the elemental arrows can bounce off walls and thus cause multiple damage or healing – careful positioning, both by the group and the Elemental Archer, will be even more important than before.

Trove is one of the games that was not initially expected to achieve such great success. Yet it is extremely popular. Now, a new update for the MMO called “Rise of the Shadow Tower” has been released.
Climbing stairs is said to be healthy. Thus, a massive tower in the MMORPG Trove is just what is needed. To lose a few voxel pounds, your hero climbs the many steps of the Shadow Tower and faces numerous challenges there.
At the top, there is said to be an ancient evil force that you must stop! But what is this dark power, and why does it hide at the top of the tower when a knight in full armor is already out of breath halfway up? The Moon Goddess apparently wants to be close to her mother, the Moon. The Moon Goddess is jealous of the Sun Goddess and thus spreads her dark influence everywhere. She now uses the tower to bring darkness over all worlds of Trove.
You fight your way up the enormous tower floor by floor, defeating numerous enemies along the way, such as the Shadow Hydra (a creature designed by a fan of the game), to finally face the Moon Goddess herself. Prepare for a tough battle!
If you wish, you can also take on this challenge in the role of the new class Lunar Lancer. This class fights with a spear and can buff its companions. In addition, the now released update introduces revised challenges, new player creations, a bald head potion, and new upgradable Legendary Tomes. There is much new for the players of the MMO Trove to do!

The team of Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting another addition and bringing a well-known author back on board.
Back to BioWare after a short break
Back at BioWare – and busy creating stories again! Image source
In the upcoming expansion Knights of the Fallen Empire, much will revolve around the story in Star Wars: The Old Republic. However, BioWare also seems to want to place a big focus on the narrative for the immediate time afterward. Since the beginning of the month, Drew Karpyshyn has been working for BioWare again!
He temporarily left BioWare to write a novel trilogy, but has now returned. He had to temper the excitement of curious fans a bit and confirmed that he would not be working on a new game, but would be responsible for the Star Wars universe again.
Although it is reasonable to assume that Karpyshyn will not have an impact on the launch of the expansion – the time is now too tight for that – fans can look forward to content in the near future that at least story-wise comes from his pen.
For those who may not know the name, it should be noted: Karpyshyn was significantly involved in the story of Mass Effect 1&2, as well as Knights of the Old Republic, and a large part of the Vanilla stories of SWTOR also came from his mind.

The military MMO World of Tanks is supposed to look great on the Playstation 4. The resolution and frame rate sound excellent. It should even look better than on PC.
60 FPS at a resolution of 1080p will be achieved and it will come across as more elegant and sophisticated than on the PC. Because on PC, many different systems have to be managed. 60-70% of PC users play World of Tanks on weak or mediocre systems, making it difficult to implement more demanding things like HD maps and tanks or the weather system.
Update: Wargaming has since corrected the interview. Even on the Playstation 4, World of Tanks will only run at 30 fps.

Mein MMO says:This marketing statement is, of course, well received on the console-affine Dualshockers site. It’s like water on the mills of the readers there, who can’t help but make a “Take that, PC Masterrace” comment. How it will turn out in practice remains to be seen.

In the MMO shooter Destiny , players without the expansion “The Taken King” are left in the dark.
“Imagine you buy a sofa for $100. After a year, the sofa company comes to your house. They say you need to pay $40 to get a nice cushion. And if you don’t pay, they will saw the couch in half and take one half with them.” With this example, a player on bungie.net describes his last week in Destiny. He did not purchase the expansion “The Taken King”.
On September 14, you could do much more than on September 15
With September 15 came many new things for buyers. However, for non-buyers, others disappeared. They now lack access to certain playlists, the Nightfall strike, vendors, certain missions, Crucible modes, and much more. Or they have access, but it is either at a much too low or too high level. While they could still play the old raids or “The Prison of Elders” – there are hardly any players left.
For them, it is clear: On September 14, there was still plenty to do in Destiny; there was still a full game for which they paid in full. Not so on September 15.
The disappointment is great.
The expansion does not add, it replaces
The problem, analyzed by a player on reddit: “Destiny is a disguised subscription MMO.” Anyone who wants to play actively needs the latest expansion; otherwise, they are left out in the cold. Because additional content does not come, as in “The Elder Scrolls Online”, as a new building block that adds on top of the pyramid, but it replaces existing game content. Those who do not buy this expansion lose something but receive no replacement.
The main criticism from players: That was not how it was announced. If I had known this, it would have influenced my purchasing decision.
Bungie has not yet commented on the topic.
Problems could have been prevented with a lot of effort
My MMO thinks: These are very serious problems that arise from the design philosophy of Destiny. It would probably have been possible for Bungie to mitigate them, but certainly at a high cost. They were not willing to invest that.
The problem: Normally, MMOs introduce a new “zone” with a new expansion. Everything would have remained the same in the Tower, and they could have created a Tower 2 where new vendors are situated.
In Destiny, you essentially stay in the existing world, just changing it. Vendors get new inventory, doors open here, and a portal suddenly leads somewhere.
The “best solution” would be to split the world if one wants to remain in a world. Create two versions. Now limit existing activities to level 34, so there would be 2 Nightfall Strikes, one for 34 and one for 35+ and higher. There would be a Tower for level 34 and another for the players above that.
Clearly: Bungie would have to invest some resources in game content for players who “do not want to pay” more, and it seems that they missed or avoided that.
However: Even MMOs do not do that. Games like WoW, which venture into new areas with each expansion, also neglect “non-buyers”; they balance and patch for the current max level and often trivialize earlier game content. Even World of Warcraft cannot be played just as it was thought to be without the latest expansion.
Omnigul problem three times larger
Let’s not get it wrong: This is not about giving “non-buyers” new game content. It’s about taking game content away from them. With the first DLCs, there was already trouble, as non-buyers were regularly excluded from activities like the Nightfall strike whenever Omnigul or Taniks were involved.
For the first DLC, fans already called: Then just make a separate Nightfall strike for non-buyers. But even then, Bungie showed itself to be deaf to this request. Now the problem is back and much larger than it was back then.
No communication
The topic “What will it be like for players without The Taken King in Destiny?” received hardly any attention before the expansion. Now we know the answer: Pretty bad.
Since the entire situation has an “Either you pay us or…” character, it doesn’t help improve the already extremely burdened sentiment of players towards the gaming industry.
However: Most Destiny players are likely to have purchased The Taken King and now simply do not have this problem. Bungie could simply ride out the complaints, as they have in the past.

In the upcoming online shooter Star Wars Battlefront, players are concerned about matchmaking. Will there at least be dedicated servers?
When developer DICE hinted three weeks ago that there will be no server browser, alarm bells went off among fans. Not only because they see the browser as a standard feature, but also because some interpret this to mean that there may be no dedicated servers. Some feared it could be like Destiny, where players become hosts with all the associated problems.
However, there can now be reassurance: Star Wars Battlefront will launch with dedicated servers. This was told by the Battlefront Lead Designer Jamie Keen to the site Playstationlifestyle on the sidelines of the gaming expo in Tokyo.

With the current expansion The Grand Tournament a lot has changed in Hearthstone. Ben Brode talked in an interview about why certain cards have not yet been nerfed …
Deck Slots, Paladins, and the Grim Patron Warrior
There has been a lot of discussion about Hearthstone since the last expansion. Why hasn’t the Secret Paladin been nerfed? Why are all Warriors still playing Grim Patron? What data do the developers have about the players? Ben Brode, the senior designer behind the game, addressed many questions in an interview with pcgamer.com. We have translated his answers for you and summarized the most interesting aspects.
Why the Secret Paladin Has Not Been Nerfed Yet
This card causes frustration.
A major thorn in the side of most players is the Secret Paladin, which currently dominates many areas of the game. Especially due to the card “Mysterious Challenger“, the Paladin seems unstoppable. For 6 mana, the Challenger has stats of 6/6 and also puts all of the Paladin’s secrets onto the board – ideally, it draws 5 cards and plays them directly.
Opponents now have a hard time playing around all the Paladin’s secrets and often have to sacrifice their entire board, unless it has already fallen victim to a Equality-Consecration combo. Brode acknowledges that the Secret Paladin is very strong but thinks it is still too early to talk about nerfs. The Grand Tournament is still young and one must wait to see if the meta shifts a bit.
Will There Be More Deck Slots Soon?
Another question addressed the community’s repeated demand for more storage capacity for different decks. While Blizzard emphasized a year ago that 9 decks were absolutely sufficient, they seem to have bowed to the ongoing demands: There will be more deck slots. However, Brode is still not entirely sure how these should be implemented in the game. “The first logical answer is not always the best,” he said. They want to take their time to find a good solution that satisfies everyone. Whether this means that additional slots will require real money remains to be seen – how long it will take is also still unclear. “It probably won’t take five years,” Brode joked.
9 deck slots are not enough for many players – this will be increased in the future.
What Does Blizzard Know About Its Players?
It is also interesting to know what Blizzard knows about the players. The developers have access to all of the players’ decks, can track their win rates with individual classes, and find out how often they have played a specific card. They know which cards are hardly ever used and can track trends well. All of this helps a lot in identifying potential candidates for a nerf.

With The Secret World, one of the great promises to humanity is being fulfilled: Hoverboards!
Hollywood promised us two modes of transportation decades ago: jetpacks and hoverboards. Jetpacks were seen in James Bond’s “Thunderball,” in Running Man, and other films. To this day, nothing has come of it. They do exist, but they are just terribly impractical (and dangerous).
We are still a technical distance away from the hoverboards from Back to the Future II. Although, initial prototypes have been developed.
http://youtu.be/ZwSwZ2Y0Ops
In the MMORPG The Secret World, they are already mature. They will be coming soon as part of the “sprint optimization” .
In the MMO shooter Destiny , the expansion “The Taken King” also brought new codes that anyone can redeem for free to get an emblem and three strange coins.
At Destiny’s release, there were already several codes available that could unlock emblems, shaders, and Grimoire cards by simply entering them on a Bungie page. You can find the old codes here.
In the last week, two new codes have been revealed. Bungie had tied them to some puzzles.
This code gives you three strange coins: ARR-RRR-RRR (It is unclear how long this code will work – it might be time-limited)
This code grants you the new badge Insula Thesauraria: 3VF-LGC-RLX
DICE has now talked about the Force users in Star Wars: Battlefront. How powerful will they be? Which players will be able to play them?
May the Power-Up be with you
Star Wars Battlefront wants to be more than just a Battlefield clone in the universe of the Jedi and Sith. For this reason, there are Force users like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, who occasionally appear on the battlefield to bring death and destruction to the enemies of the Republic and the Empire. The Senior Producer Jamie Keen has now explained how the heroes are supposed to play – and how long they will stay.
Luke makes short work of entire groups of enemies.
According to Keen, you just have to pick up a specific item on the battlefield – like a kind of Power-Up. This then allows players to take on the role of a Force user. However, since these characters are clearly overpowered (which is what they are supposed to be), their health will continuously drain.
While you can extend this duration somewhat by killing enemy players, it probably won’t work forever. “The goal was for an average player to play as a Force user for about 2 minutes”, Keen reveals, “more skilled players might stretch this to up to 5 minutes if they are really good.”In theory, you could also stay in the skin of Luke or his father for the entire battle – but that is very, very unlikely.
The abilities of Skywalker
The young Skywalker will heat things up for the Empire – at least for 2-5 minutes.
He also briefly described how Luke will play. “He is a very acrobatic character, very strong and skilled in the ways of the Force – although he is not completely familiar with these powers yet.” This is also reflected in his abilities:
His jumps are far-reaching and enhanced by the Force – allowing him to quickly cover large distances.
The lightsaber attacks involve a large area effect, allowing numerous enemies to be attacked simultaneously in a confined space.
With the Saber Rush, Luke charges forward and strikes “at lightning speed”.
Force Push pushes back far, as the name suggests. This is also good against distant enemies.
The two match users will be playable in the upcoming beta – then you can expect first impressions from players.

In Final Fantasy XIV , the next patch 3.1 will be released in November. Hopes for an Xbox One version can probably be buried.
Patch won’t come until November, they took a vacation
The patch 3.1 will not be released until early November, which can be inferred from an unofficial translation of the last Producer’s Letter from the Tokyo Game Show. It is expected to happen in the first 10 days of November. This is unusually late for FF14 standards. Apparently, the team has taken a small breather after Heavensward.
The patch 3.1 will be packed full of a new 24-player raid, relic weapons, exploring flying islands by airship, a new “Golden Saucer” attraction, and much more. We have already introduced patch 3.1.
Due to business reasons and platform exclusivity, there will be no Xbox One version
Also in Tokyo, IGN asked Xbox One chief Phil Spencer about the possibility of a version of Final Fantasy 14 for Microsoft’s console. So far, the game is available on PC, Mac, PS3, and PS4.
There’s no good news. Final Fantasy XIV will probably not be released on Xbox One in the foreseeable future. As Phil Spencer stated, this is due to “business reasons” and platform exclusivity. He could not be more specific. There are various deals, and the situations change. Spencer did not want or could not explain what exactly the hold-up is.
Malphite will join the existing pirate skins, as “Ironside Malphite” is seen here in the splash screen with pirate versions of Quinn, Garen, and Aatrox.
And this is how he looks in-game. He will cost 975 RP.
A pair that will receive new skins are Jax and Karma. They come in this new “Warden edition.”
Each of the two skins is supposed to cost 750 RP.
And the second pair is significantly more warrior-like. Olaf and Alistar as “Marauder.”
These will also cost 750 RP each. Please keep in mind that this is still on the test server at the moment. It is unclear when they will be released and whether anything will change by then.

WildStar is getting a new in-game shop with the Free2Play transition – but how will it affect the power dynamics? Will the MMORPG be Pay2Win?
The usual concerns
In just under 10 days, the launch of WildStar: Reloaded will take place. It brings not only many new features and the long-requested Free2Play but also a new in-game shop. But what will be offered there? Do paying players get significant advantages that make them more powerful? Will the new WildStar be Pay2Win? We take a brief look at the in-game shop in its current version.
Starting September 29, WildStar is Free2Play – but will it also be Pay2Win?
Two currencies – one shop
If you take a look at the new shop, you will quickly notice that most items are offered with two currencies. The first is clear and known from other games: Ncoin. It can be purchased directly for real money and is also used in other NCsoft games – so it is cross-game usable. The second currency is called “Omnibits” and only appears in WildStar. The best part: Players earn them for everyday activities. Visiting dungeons, completing daily quests, or farming can grant these coins – dedicated players can buy items from the shop without spending money, but they will need more time than players who opt for real money.
What does the shop offer?
The ‘Fortune Coin’ is one of the few items only available for Ncoin – it offers random rewards, such as exclusive mounts and housing items.
The offerings in the in-game shop are likely familiar to most MMORPG players: There are various boosters (which increase the drop rates of resources and experience). Fairly, it must be said that these have been available for purchase since the game’s launch – for a currency that hardly anyone used. Besides housing items, special costumes for characters, and some other visual upgrades that provide no gameplay advantage, there are also unlocks. Similar to SWTOR, you can acquire new character slots or greater access to the auction house here. Here lies the only real major criticism for F2P players: They only have access to creating 3 auctions simultaneously. Presumably, one will buy an increase of 50 slots as soon as the necessary Omnibits have been farmed.
There are also items with which runes can be recovered from weapons and armor, and these could be directly converted into gold – whether this will sustainably harm the game’s economy remains to be seen.
The YouTuber Fevir has introduced the new shop in a short video that we don’t want to withhold from you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaqROuP3Kik
All of this leads to the conclusion that one cannot really speak of Pay2Win in WildStar. Please keep in mind that the facts mentioned here are still from the test server – a last-minute change from Carbine would of course be possible, though unpredictable (and it would likely damage the studio’s reputation).

In the SF-MMO Star Trek Online , the Cardassian fight is being revamped.
A typical problem with MMOs that last for years: Eventually, some parts of the game feel out of date. In Star Trek Online, renovations are now taking place, focusing on the storyline of “The Cardassian Fight.”
The story arc consists of 4 episodes and is playable from level 35. The plot features elements from the television series “Deep Space Nine.” The influence of the “True Way,” a group of Cardassian nationalists who do not recognize the peace treaty that ended the war against the Dominion, grows.
At the center of the plot is a “Tactical Cube” that is to return to Bajor.
The missions surrounding “The Cardassian Fight” in their original form were considered by some to be the low point of the game, as the weakest storyline. This is a matter of taste, but it would explain why Star Trek Online is focusing on this.

In Destiny , a player has completed the oversized treasure hunt for calcified fragments and has received the Touch of Malice.
Not all exotic weapons in Destiny are known. 13 are officially in the database. Some others, like Sleeper Simulant or “Touch of Malice” are known, but they are not in the database. Details are still unclear.
Touch of Malice – Scout rifle with interesting perks
Last night, the Touch of Malice was found for the first time by the player SackofFerrets. It is indeed the weapon that caused a stir with images beforehand.
The Touch of Malice is an exotic scout rifle with two exotic perks. One restores health when you achieve three precision kills in quick succession. The other perk ensures that the last round in the magazine deals bonus damage, while also draining the user’s health.
How to get the Touch of Malice in Destiny?
The Touch of Malice is awarded at the end of a challenging and lengthy quest in the Taken King, which is a search, as it is referred to in Destiny-German.
Almost every Guardian is on this quest. Without knowing what awaits them at the end, they search for the calcified fragments in the Dreadnaught. Many thought it would result in Sleeper Simulant.
The exact process of the quest is still unclear at the moment. In addition to collecting these fragments, which are hidden everywhere, there are a few more quest steps where Guardians have to complete specific missions.
It may also be that to fully complete the Touch of Malice, you need an item from the final boss of the raid “King’s Fall”, which does not drop every time – similar to Crux for Necrochasm.

Unfortunately, this is not entirely clear at the moment. The user who was the first to receive the “Touch of Malice” worldwide says he only needed “45” calcified fragments for it. He knows the details alone. He also says that the scout rifle is fully automatic and needs Hadium Flakes to be upgraded.
But this will surely become known in the coming days and detailed guides will emerge.
