The “Nearby” error makes catching in Pokémon GO more difficult than ever!
In Pokémon GO, it’s all about walking through the streets and fields with your smartphone to catch wild Pokémon. At least, that was the plan. Currently, there is a bug with the feature that is supposed to track nearby Pokémon. No matter where you are – you are constantly shown 3 footprints. You need a lot of luck to find such a Pokémon nearby.
The “Nearby” bug causes frustration
If you have played Pokémon GO in the past few days, you probably noticed that the “Nearby” display doesn’t work as it did in the first days. Normally, this display shows you the distance of the Pokémon with 1-3 footprints. 1 footprint means that the Pokémon is very close to your GPS location, 3 footprints are the farthest distance shown.
If the app itself doesn’t adhere to these rules, it drives many players crazy. They walk endlessly in one direction, thinking they misunderstood something, but they are doing nothing wrong and still have no success.
We hope that this bug will be fixed in the next update of Pokémon GO or in the meantime through a hotfix because the footprints in Pokémon GO are one of the core features of the game that makes finding and catching Pokémon truly interesting. While you can still randomly encounter Pokémon, it’s not nearly as enjoyable as stalking the rare Pokémon with the footprints.

Owners of a stylish Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone have a powerful device with the latest Android version, but they cannot enjoy Pokémon GO, as the mini phone is currently not supported by the game and we cannot download the app from the Play Store. A similar problem plagues owners of Amazon Fire devices as well as users of older devices like the good old S3. So what to do?
The solution – Install the Pokémon GO app on S5 Mini or Amazon Fire yourself
If you have an S5 Mini or a Fire device, you don’t need to worry any further, because even if the official app store doesn’t help you, it is still possible! Your devices can handle the app performance-wise, and as always, when an app doesn’t work through the convenient app store, you can still get it running via manual installation. Proceed as follows:
Go to Android settings and then to the “Security” sub-section.
Go to “Device administration” and enable the option to install apps from “Unknown sources”.
That’s it for the settings; exit the menu and select the directory where the Pokémon GO APK file is located.
Tap on it and install the app.

What about my S3 or Windows Phone?

Update 16:50:As often happens when problems of such magnitude arise, so-called “hacker groups” also report and claim at least indirectly to be behind the problems. A group is also claiming responsibility for the server issues of Pokémon GO with “DDOS” attacks.
At least that’s what a Twitter account, attributed to this group, reports. About two hours ago, around 14:55, when the problems started, they tweeted “PokémonGO Offline with hashtags. Such messages are usually sent by these groups when they want to indicate: Here! We! Look at us, it was us! Cool, right?
Since these people seek attention, we will not name this group here. As long as the developers themselves don’t say: Yes, it was a DDOS, such “confessions” should be treated with caution.
