In a swatting incident related to Call of Duty, U.S. federal authorities are now charging three men. They face significant prison sentences.
Swatting after Christmas: We have reported on the swatting incident in Wichita several times on Mein MMO. On December 28, 2017, an innocent person was shot by a police officer. The police were dispatched following a swatting call. The incident has now taken a new turn, nearly five months later.
Players remained unharmed until May – Not anymore
Only one in prison so far: The person who made the swatting call has been in custody for quite some time: Tyler Barriss (25) is awaiting his charges in a prison in Kansas. He has confessed to making the phone call.
The two Call of Duty players, whose dispute triggered the swatting incident, had remained unharmed until now. That changed in May 2018. According to the Los Angeles Times, federal authorities intervened last Wednesday and are charging all three men.
Players aged 18 and 19 made a bet: The two Call of Duty players are Casey Viner (18) and Shane Gaskill (19). They were in a Call of Duty match together and got into a dispute. The dispute was reportedly over a $2 bet. That’s about 1 Euro and 70 cents.
“Try something”: Gaskill posted an address and essentially urged Viner to “Try something.” The address was a house in Wichita where Gaskill had previously lived. Viner was unaware of that. Viner then asked Tyler Barriss to initiate the swatting call and send the police after Gaskill. Barriss did so and feigned an emergency during a call. He posed as a hostage taker.
Officer shot innocent man: The police arrived at the given address and shot 28-year-old Andrew Finch during the operation. The local authority’s investigation determined that no charges would be filed against the officer. This was the first incident where someone died as a result of swatting.
Allegations: The three men are accused of having deleted communications when they realized someone had been killed. Viner is said to have reset his iPhone and deleted data, it is reported.
20 years in prison face the two Call of Duty players
The charges:
Tyler Barriss is charged with making a false report to an emergency service. He is also charged with cyberstalking, threatening calls, and six counts of “wired fraud.” Additionally, he is charged with conspiracy to make false statements. Furthermore, he is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter in Kansas.
Gaskill and Viner are charged with wire fraud, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Viner also faces an additional charge of conspiracy to make false statements.
The penalties: The prosecutors say, according to the LA Times,
that Tyler Barriss could face life imprisonment for cyberstalking and his calls.
Viner and Gaskill could face up to 20 years in prison for obstruction of justice.

The end-of-the-world shooter Earthfall will soon leave Early Access on Steam. The co-op game, reminiscent of Left 4 Dead in its four-player action, also incorporates the base-building from Fortnite’s “Save the World” mode.
The co-op shooter Earthfall has received a release date. On July 13th, the game will leave Early Access on Steam and be released as a full version. This co-op game for up to four players is heavily inspired by Left 4 Dead but features aliens as enemies instead of zombies.
In addition to PC, Earthfall will also be released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
Current alternative for Left 4 Dead?
What is Earthfall? Earthfall is an end-of-the-world shooter in which up to four players fight for survival. The game is heavily based on Valve’s Left 4 Dead but uses aliens as enemies instead of zombies.
Additionally, the base-building of Fortnite’s “Save the World” mode is included. During the missions, bases must be built, fortified, and defended.
What does Earthfall offer? The shooter is entirely focused on co-op with up to three teammates; currently, there are no other modes. In Earthfall, you will fight through ten missions spanning two separate campaigns. The following should be offered to you:
Four different characters with unique personalities
Drop-in, drop-out multiplayer: teammates can join or leave the missions at any time. Missing team members will be replaced by bots
Level objectives that are to be connected with a story and a deep lore
Powerful weapons, barricades, or turrets that can not only be found but also printed at 3D printers distributed throughout the game world
The price for Earthfall in its current Early Access on Steam is still €14.99, but it is expected to rise to €29.99 afterward. Additionally, a Deluxe Edition is planned for €39.99, which will include exclusive Hazmat outfits and weapon skins.
Whether the price also applies to the console version is still unknown.

With the Weekly Reset on May 22, the third part of “Incoming Twilight” was unlocked in Destiny 2. This questline takes Guardians to the exotic scout rifle from Ana Bray. We will show you what you need to do to get one step closer to the Polaris Lance this week.
It was already clear last week: The coveted exotic scout rifle from Ana Bray – the Polaris Lance – is hidden behind a time lock. Week by week, another of the five quest steps is unlocked, bringing fans closer to the exotic weapon.
This week, players now have the opportunity to complete the third part of “Incoming Twilight”. What do you have to do for it? And what awaits the players at the end of the third quest part?
Incoming Twilight 3/5 – The Path to the Polaris Lance
To master this week’s step of the questline, Guardians once again need to complete several tasks.
Complete ten waves of the Escalation Protocol: As with the quest for the Sleeper Simulant, it is sufficient to successfully finish the first wave of the Escalation Protocol ten times. According to player reports, however, it also counts if you complete all seven consecutive waves of the Escalation Protocol along with the final boss. Then this step should also be considered completed. If you consider that the easier way, you can save three levels here.
Complete three Vanguard Strikes: This step is self-explanatory. Heroic Strikes and the Nightfall also count. This way, you can kill several birds with one stone.
Activate the Sleeper Node in Olympus Descent: Head to Olympus Descent on Mars. Activate the corresponding node there. You can find the position in the image.
After that, return to Ana and activate the third terminal with the found datasets.
The Reward: As a reward for completing the third quest step, you will receive a masterwork version of the Braytech RWP MK. II scout rifle, which you already obtained upon successful completion of Part 2 of the Incoming Twilight.

A PS4 player in Fortnite was banned from the PlayStation Network by Sony after he wrote in a chat message, “Bahaha my dad works for Sony and will ban you.” It was meant as a joke that Sony apparently did not understand.
Good sniper kill: As Segment Next reports, the player, Hamed Jalalie, made a really good kill with a sniper in Fortnite. He eliminated an opponent at over 260m in Fortnite Battle Royale on the PlayStation 4.
Poor loser: The defeated player then contacted the sniper via PSN and accused Hamed of being a hacker. He said he would report him directly to developer Epic Games to get him banned.
Joke backfires: The sniper then replied via PSN: “Bahahahahahahaha my dad works at Sony he will get u banned” – translated, “My dad works at Sony and will make sure you get banned.” The shooter referenced an old meme from the Xbox 360 days.
Backfires: But in fact, the shooter was banned from the PlayStation Network because of this statement. The user received an email from Sony stating, “Your account will be permanently banned.” The ban resulted from this exchange with the person who accused him of being a hacker. According to Sony’s rules, it is strictly prohibited to impersonate a Sony employee or to claim influence over a Sony employee. This ban cannot be lifted and is permanent.
Sony takes this seriously: Apparently, Sony is not familiar with this old meme that refers to sore losers, of kids threatening their dads when things don’t go their way. Sony shows zero tolerance when it comes to enforcing this “Do not impersonate Sony employees” rule. So, one should be careful about what they chat online.
Jagex has announced that it will close Runescape Classic this coming August. Runescape Classic is the original version of the MMORPG, which has existed for 17 years.
The End of Runescape Classic
What versions of Runescape are there? There are three versions of Runescape.
Runescape – This is the “regular” version that is continually updated and expanded with new content and gameplay changes.
Runescape Classic – A rather old version of the game that hasn’t received updates in a long time and is mostly played by veterans.
Old School Runescape – A version that was launched in 2013 at the urging of fans. Old School is a copy of Runescape from its early days, but it continues to receive updates, which are approved by the veterans beforehand.
Classic version is being discontinued. Jagex has now announced that Runescape Classic will be discontinued in August. The other two versions will remain available. The reason given is that the Classic version is based on outdated technology that, among other things, facilitates bot attacks. The security of players cannot be ensured anymore in Runescape Classic. Furthermore, it has long been impossible to register for this version, and the player numbers are declining.
Additionally, the version can no longer be supported by the team due to time constraints, leading to an accumulation of bugs that may even result in the game becoming unplayable. Therefore, the team saw no option but to shut down Runescape Classic.
When will the servers go offline? Jagex states that the operation of Runescape Classic will be “phased out” over the coming months. The servers will be shut down on August 6.
The peripheral lineup for the PS4 expands in summer 2018. The custom manufacturer SCUF introduces a licensed, customizable alternative to Sony’s DualShock 4 controller.
With the SCUF Vantage, the PS4 will receive another licensed controller in summer 2018 – initially only in the USA and Canada. The new Vantage is aimed primarily at players looking for a high-quality input device with customizable buttons and functions.
Such features are particularly popular in competitive shooters. However, in titles such as Fortnite or Elite Dangerous, the SCUF Vantage can certainly make life easier for players. Various complex functions that usually require several hand movements or button combinations can thus be assigned to a single button.
For example, building with the standard PS4 controller in Fortnite can quickly become cumbersome. The fingers need to switch rapidly between buttons. With the Vantage, you can conveniently assign such functions to a single button or paddle. Complicated constructions become much simpler.

What comes after Articuno? The community continues to assume that the rewards for research breakthroughs change monthly. So there should be a new reward again in July. Whether it continues with Entei, Suicune, and Raikou is still unclear.
Anyone who doesn’t have a Zapdos should hurry
If you haven’t reached a research breakthrough in May yet and really want a Zapdos, you should hurry. There are only a few days left until Zapdos as a reward disappears again. It is unclear when the Pokémon will return to Pokémon GO and how long it will last.

From EA’s announcement about the World Cup mode, a lot can already be inferred.
All 32 qualified national teams along with their players will be included, and the 12 Russian stadiums will be fully licensed. There will also be the official match ball, jerseys, and other World Cup elements like team banners.
Additionally, there are various game modes:
2018 FIFA World Cup Russia: Here you can choose one of the 32 teams and replay a World Cup – up to the final in Moscow.
Custom FIFA World Cup Tournament: Create your own World Cup tournament with all licensed national teams, including Italy, the Netherlands, or the USA.
FIFA World Cup Kickoff: Normal offline kickoff mode with all teams and stadiums.

World Cup update for FUT resembles the “FIFA 14” World Cup mode
All information about the World Cup update we have so far indicates that the World Cup mode will behave similarly to FIFA 14.
The World Cup mode was previously separated from the regular Ultimate Team. There was no market; players could only be obtained through packs. The coins applied equally to both FUT modes.
The World Cup players could only be played in the World Cup mode; however, for each World Cup pack, you received a set in the regular FUT.

Why should one be excited about this? The World Cup mode was extremely popular in FIFA 14. There are many new possibilities in team building. Moreover, many more players got to play with stars like Messi or Ronaldo, as the drop rate was much more player-friendly. Together with the World Cup licenses, the mode was a refreshing change from the regular FUT.
Open PvP is often a problem in an MMORPG. This often leads to griefing, meaning that more powerful players repeatedly attack beginners. Currently, the MMORPG Worlds Adrift suffers from exactly this problem.

What is the problem? In Worlds Adrift, players who are somewhat experienced and have actually left the beginner zone return to this area. There, they ambush newcomers and repeatedly attack them due to the open PvP system. New entrants have very little chance of leaving the beginner zone to get better.

Many criticize the overall style of the trailer. Women are part of a problem area along with katanas, prosthetics, and “looks like Call of Duty.” Others have no problem with it at all. This is also evident from the more than 140,000 upvotes of the trailer.
Somehow, there is a battle royale mode in Battlefield 5 that is hidden in the Grand Operations. But don’t expect Fortnite here.
This happened: In advance, there were rumors that Battlefield V would have a battle royale mode. This was “partially” confirmed during the reveal on May 23.

Already in Battlefield 1, there was the mode “Operations”, which spans multiple rounds. In Battlefield V, this mode is elevated to the next level and is called “Grand Operations” or “Large Operations”.
Operations come with four gameplay rounds. In Grand Operations, players jump out of an airplane at the beginning of a round and glide onto the map. We already know this from BR games like PUBG. Then there are up to four gameplay rounds. Initially, they will likely try to take down the air defenses. After that, the fighting continues on the ground.
The last round can decide: If the match is not clearly determined before, there will be a fourth and final gameplay round called “Final Stand”. Players only have minimal ammunition supplies (probably only one magazine) and must loot resources from killed players.
