Measures against cheaters in online games are important so that players do not lose the fun without cheats. The MOBA League of Legends has now changed its anti-cheat measures to create a safer environment in the game. As a byproduct, an entire operating system, Linux, is now excluded.

LoL on Linux blocked, the small player base is angry
What happened? A few days ago, Riot Games implemented the new anti-cheat measures for League of Legends. Players using third-party programs are to stay away from the MOBA. With third-party software, cheats can be employed that automatically evade enemy attacks.
Impact on Linux: As players on Reddit have noted, users of the Linux operating system can no longer play League of Legends since this change. They are simply excluded. They do not have their own client but play through the Wine software, which allows Windows software to run on Linux.
What do the developers say about it? They explain in the announcement about the new anti-cheat software that players should not use the game in virtual machines, including “Wine”. This leads to crashes or reconnect loops.
The problem: Players whose PCs run on Linux use Wine to run Windows programs on the system.
No homegrown solution from Riot for now
It seems that developer Riot Games has shown little interest so far in working on a solution for Linux players. In a comment in the League of Legends forums, Riot Perma writes:
We have not specifically tested compatibility with Wine or other Windows emulators or virtualization software. Because the nature of the protective software is so complex and many variations of software are in circulation, we cannot present a solution that is compatible with all. However, we are open to working with all software providers who want to make their software compatible.
This statement is not well received in the forum. The comment receives negative ratings.
What do Linux users want? They would like a dedicated client. After all, League of Legends was also unplayable on Mac for years until Riot finally decided to provide these players with their own client.
Whether Riot is considering a Linux client remains to be seen. So far, there is no new information on this.
Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Switch & Xbox One) has a new tournament. In July 2018, Red Bull will host the “Rise till Dawn” tournament. It is expected to last all night, and Ninja will be participating again!

Tournament format? The battles will be held in duo mode, meaning there will be 50 teams of 2.
Rules? The player who earns the most points by the end of the tournament wins.
Further details, such as the prize money or the participant list, are not yet known.
Ninja and Red Bull are now partners
A prominent participant is already known: The famous Tyler “Ninja” Blevins will definitely be there. A partnership has even been announced between Red Bull and Ninja. In a specially produced clip, Ninja is seen ceremoniously putting on a headband with the Red Bull logo.

For the developers, realism does not mean that it takes an eternity to prepare for the first battle. The battles themselves should come across as intense. Enlisted is set to come to Xbox One in 2018
Playable soon in Xbox Game Preview Program. While the developers have not announced a specific date yet, Enlisted will be playable on Xbox One via the Game Preview program later in 2018. The following content will be available in the version:

Fortnite accounts linked to the PS4 cannot play on the Nintendo Switch. The reason? Money. At least that’s what a former head of Sony Online Entertainment says.
The problem: Those who want to play Fortnite on the Switch and try to log in with their account linked to the PlayStation 4 are out of luck. Once connected to Sony, the account can only be used on PS4, PC, Mobile, and Mac. But why doesn’t Sony allow accounts to function on the Nintendo Switch as well?
The real reason back then was money: John Smedley has now spoken up on Twitter. The former head of Sony Online Entertainment explains what the internal reason for rejecting crossplay with other consoles was back then and still is: Money.
Smedley explained in his post: “When I was still at Sony, the internal reason was money. They didn’t want people to buy something on Xbox and then be able to use it on PlayStation. It’s that simple. A dumb reason, but that’s just how it is.”
Smedley demands: Keep up the pressure
More pressure could soften Sony. However, Smedley is optimistic that with increasing pressure at Sony, there could be a change. After all, previous games with the same problem did not attract as much attention as Fortnite. So there is hope that something will change in the medium term if players continue to apply pressure and urge Sony to reconsider their decision.
Who is John Smedley? Smedley is a video game developer. Since 1996, he was part of a development studio under Sony that was long known as “Sony Online Entertainment”. Smedley later served as CEO of the studio. In this position, he developed and published video games such as PlanetSide, Star Wars Galaxies, or H1Z1 for 19 years. In 2015, Sony sold the company. This also marked Smedley’s exit from Sony’s services. He is thus a long-standing former Sony insider.
Whether this is the actual rationale or whether there are other reasons since Smedley’s departure from Sony cannot be said until Sony comments on it.

The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has suffered a significant loss in positive ratings on Steam. This is due to login issues. Nevertheless, players love the game and criticize it in a highly constructive and polite manner.
The Elder Scrolls Online has a problem on Steam. Until recently, the Steam reviews for ESO were still “Very Positive”. However, massive login issues occurred, completely locking players out of the game over the weekend. Huge Reddit threads and a multitude of dissatisfied players were the result.
This, in turn, led to a massive decline in user reviews. As a result, ESO is now only found in the “Mixed” category on Steam.
We love the game anyway!
What’s so special about that? It’s nothing new for games to drop significantly on Steam after massive bugs. The last time this happened was with Bless and its troubled early access. However, unlike competing titles, even the negative reviews for The Elder Scrolls Online are often very polite and constructively worded.
ESO is still good! Many critics are only complaining about the unacceptable login issues of The Elder Scrolls Online. The game itself is worth every penny and truly good. So it’s advised not to refrain from purchasing, at most from playing on Steam, until the login issues are resolved.
Don’t ruin your fun! A user on Reddit summed up the sentiment of concerned ESO players quite well. He loves ESO and fears that new players will be immediately driven away if they cannot log into the game regularly.
That would be extremely unfortunate, as The Elder Scrolls Online is such a good MMO. Therefore, he earnestly advises all interested gamers not to get the game on Steam. The regular PC version via the own launcher does not have the login issues.
Zenimax is working on a solution
In a tweet, the developers at Zenimax have already announced help. They are already working on a solution for the login problems on Steam.
