A bug on the PS4 is causing players to lose their progress in Overwatch . Will they be compensated?
Rollback on PS4 Leaves Overwatch Players Desperate
Bugs and glitches in games are annoying, as they ruin the fun of playing. At least they usually only occur temporarily and disappear in the next match. However, a current error in Overwatch, occurring in the PS4 version of the game, is different.
Since July 11, many players have reported on Reddit and the official forums of the shooter that they have fallen victim to a “rollback” of their accounts. The affected accounts have been reset to an earlier state, which affects players to varying degrees.
In plain terms, this means that many players on the Sony console have lost between 5 and 50 ranks. Consequently, the loot earned from the corresponding loot boxes was also removed. So, anyone who was lucky enough to get that one skin they always wanted is understandably doubly frustrated. This is particularly annoying for players in ranked mode, as they have also been catapulted back in time and must earn their rank again.
Blizzard did announce the day after – on July 12 – that they would address the issue and applied a hotfix that will prevent this error in the future.
However, there is still no sign of the restoration of the lost levels and cosmetic items. It remains to be seen whether Blizzard will even be able to restore this data.
