A funny bug in the new Overwatch map Rialto allows players to receive the “Play of the Game” without any actual performance.
The latest Overwatch map “Rialto” has a funny bug. Players can cheat their way into getting the coveted “Play of the Game” simply by shooting NPC gondoliers and not engaging in the actual gameplay.
Where can you find the bug? The error is located on the new Venice map “Rialto” at the bridge connecting both parts of the city over the river. Gondolas, driven by Omnics, continuously travel back and forth on the river. The gondolas can be used for transport, allowing players to sneak in for an ambush.
What causes the bug? The gondoliers seem to count internally as units that players can deal actual damage to. Furthermore, the game internally counts the “kills” on the gondoliers as if they were enemy players. Thus, players can easily shoot multiple Omnic gondoliers in a short amount of time, drastically increasing the chances of getting a “Play of the Game”.
Bug may be counted as “afk”
However, it should be noted that staying by the gondolas for an extended period could be considered “inactive” or “gameplay sabotage”. Those who spend all their time with the gondoliers are not participating in the actual game, thus being a burden to the team. Anyone wanting to indulge in this fun should limit the time spent on it.
But at least this way Ana can finally get a Play of the Game – which is quite difficult.
It is expected that Blizzard will fix this bug in the near future so that the “Play of the Game” moments can be attributed to truly relevant plays again.
