A Chinese professional player from the Overwatch League has received a hefty penalty. The reason was inappropriate behavior towards a female streamer, according to his team. He was held accountable and “admonished” for making odd advances towards Twitch streamer Aspen. The streamer herself apparently considered the remark harmless.
What did the pro do? Overwatch pro Zhang “YangXiaoLong” Zhihao plays in the Overwatch League for the Chinese team Chengdu Hunters in the DPS role. He made an inappropriate comment.
In the stream of young Cloud9 streamer Becca “Aspen” Rukavina, YangXiaoZhihao played alongside his teammate Ding “ameng” Menghan on Aspen’s team. Between two rounds in a match, YangXiaoZhihao wrote:
Hey Aspen. Ameng says you’re his second wife.
This is how the streamer reacted: Aspen, who already helped clarify the Ellie disaster, apparently reacted calmly. She just shook her head, slapped her forehead, and laughed. Then she typed “Lul.”
It didn’t seem at all that she felt attacked by the remark.
Ameng, who was also in the chat, later apologized for his teammate’s behavior via private message.
YangXiaoZhihao just likes to make jokes and has “brain problems.”
This is how severe the penalty is: The Chinese team Chengdu Hunters apparently does not see the whole situation so lightly. On Twitter, the team officially apologized to Aspen and assured that YangXiaoZhihao was admonished and lectured for his misconduct.
Furthermore, the team explained that the penalty for YangXiaoZhihao would take the form of an entire month’s salary. Additionally, he will lose the bonus for the entire Phase 2 of Season 2 of the Overwatch League.
The Chengdu Hunters also stated that they are using this to make other players aware of the consequences. They want to prevent something like this from happening again.

The former Overwatch pro Cortex believes the penalty was so harsh because Aspen is only 17.
The Chinese is said to have made a translation error; he probably meant “waifu” instead of “wife.”

Aspen herself says she accepts the apology. She would have thought it was just a joke anyway.
Who are the Chengdu Hunters? The Chengdu Hunters are one of the currently lower-tier teams in the Overwatch League. They were roughly on par with the Shanghai Dragons in the first phase, who only celebrated their first victory in Season 2.
Although they are not among the best teams, the Chengdu Hunters and YangXiaoZhihao repeatedly surprise with interesting team compositions. They often play setups that go against the considered boring GOATS meta.
