In Overwatch the ranked game mode is postponed again. It will not be available in the beta, nor will it be available at launch.
Ranked Mode only “sometime after launch”
The ranked game mode of Overwatch is a particular concern for Blizzard. After it was said last year that there would probably be no ladder system until launch, fans were positively surprised when the mode was implemented during the closed beta.
Now Blizzard has backtracked again: Both the current beta and the launch of the game will not include the ranked game mode, that is, “Ranked Play”, which will be delivered “sometime later”.
The reason for this is feedback received during the closed beta. In the official forum of the game, Jeff Kaplan commented on this decision:
“We have worked hard to bring the ranked game mode into the closed beta. We have read the community’s feedback and take it to heart. As a result, we have disabled the ranked game mode in the open beta so that we can revise and improve the system. Our plan is to release a revised version of this mode sometime after the game’s launch. Thank you for all the feedback and your patience with us as we work to improve the game further.”
There is still no specific date for when to expect the ranked mode again. Even the small rewards, like spray logos and display images, that could be earned in this mode are likely on hold for the time being.
Currently, Overwatch is in the “Early Access Beta”, which is available only to pre-order customers and a friend each. Starting tomorrow, May 5th at 1:00 AM, the open beta will begin for 4 days, during which all interested players can participate for free.
