Lúcio was born in Brazil, right in Rio de Janeiro. However, he did not live on the sunny side of life there, as his favela became one of the poorest neighborhoods after the Omnic Crisis, which was further exacerbated by problems in the financial markets. To bring hope back to the people around him, he learned to deal with music, as he recognized early on the positive effect it had on his fellow human beings. As a street musician, he quickly gathered many fans in the area and became the star of several underground shows.
But then came the Vishkar Corporation. The multinational corporation quickly bought up the entire district and promised to accelerate the reconstruction. Under the pretext of rebuilding, however, the residents had to endure severe restrictions. There were curfews, and Vishkar announced its own laws – those who violated these laws were brutally held accountable. The residents of the favela were quickly exploited as cheap labor.
Lúcio could not sit idly by and broke into a building of Vishkar, where he stole innovative acoustic technology. This had previously been used to make the residents docile – Lúcio turned this effect upside down and rehearsed an uprising with the residents until Vishkar was completely expelled from the city.
Since then, Lúcio has been a symbol of the strength of the people and the positive social change they can achieve when they work together. His concerts fill huge arenas, and he has recognized the influence he can now have on the whole world – he wants to make it a better place.
Satya “Symmetra” Vaswani
Vishkar is order. Vishkar is perfection. Vishkar is the future.
After the Omnic Crisis, Vishkar began building cities for the displaced Indian population in South India. Within just a few hours, the architects could create roads, houses, and supply networks with their innovative photon technology, thus creating the city of Utopea. In this city, the young Satya Vaswani grew up, who came from a poor background.
Vishkar discovered that Satya had the gift of bending light – a necessity to later become an architect. She was quickly taken from poverty to the Vishkar Architect Academy – and never returned to her homeland. Satya’s talent for handling technology was unique, and she surpassed all her classmates. Instead of acting pragmatically and mechanically, she weaved the bending of light with traditional Indian dances. But Vishkar saw even more potential in her talent. She was given the nickname “Symmetra” and was employed by the company to carry out covert operations, representing the firm’s interests, eliminating competition, or “negotiating” with contractors. Satya is convinced that she is acting in the service of humanity. Order is the only true solution and is brought by Vishkar. Freedom is just an illusion and an obstacle to be overcome.
Moreover, Symmetra possesses some traits that indicate she may have autism – such as her obsession with perfection or the ability to grasp complex mathematical relationships almost instantly.
The problems with the omnics often take strange turns. Twenty years ago, South Korea was first attacked by a gigantic omnic that emerged from the depths of the sea. This omnic caused devastating damage before it could be driven back into the sea. To protect against further attacks, the South Korean government developed an armored drone unit for defense.
However, this did not bring real success: Every few years, the giant omnic returned from the water, was defeated but never destroyed – it reconfigured itself again and again and became increasingly threatening until one day it destroyed the drone control network. Since then, the government has been forced to man the mechs. They turned to people who had the necessary reflexes and instincts to react quickly in combat situations: gamers.
One of these gamers was Hana Song, who made a name for herself in eSports as “D.Va”. At 16, she became world champion in StarCraft 2 and was unbeaten in the following three years. For Hana, this task is just another game in which she can improve – although she certainly shows the necessary seriousness to achieve her goals. In the meantime, she has even started to livestream the events from the fights against the omnics to her fans around the world. Hana Song is a global idol, as she shows that you can achieve a lot even at a young age.
