How big are the hitboxes in Overwatch? A few players have looked into this quite accurately – for all heroes.
The basic concept of winning in Overwatch is, like in any shooter, quite simple: Hit the opponent’s head before they can do so. But how big is a “head” in Overwatch? There has been much discussion in the past that the actual hitboxes – that is the hit zones – of the heads are significantly larger than the visible head. A Discord community of Overwatch examined all the heads closely and simply conducted an exact test with Widowmaker.
On various images, they marked the hitboxes of all heroes. While some characters, like Mercy, have a nearly round hitbox, others are significantly more angular. McCree, for example, also falls directly over when his hat is shot off. But that’s just a natural law for a real cowboy.
Especially with Winston and Roadhog, a large part of the shoulder still counts as “head”, which makes it particularly easy to blow away the health lights of these tanks.

For other characters, the hitbox seems strange. For instance, with Zenyatta, a large area “around the head” is also part of the hitbox, but his chin is no longer part of the critical hit zone.
It is important to note that hitscan weapons (like those of Soldier: 76 and McCree) work differently than projectiles (Orisa, Mercy, or Hanzo). Projectiles have their own hitbox, which gives a slightly larger margin to actually hit a target.
