Those wanting to troll Overwatch fans can do so through leaks. With the leak generator, they probably thought they were being particularly funny.
In the vast depths of the internet, there are plenty of trolls and jokesters who just want to create a little chaos and confusion. It often happens that some people make up “leaks” that they claim have already deciphered the secrets of the next Overwatch patch. Distinguishing such fake leaks from actual leaks isn’t easy, especially if the creator puts in a bit of effort.
But if one is even too lazy to come up with their own leaks, the local troll just waits until a script does the job automatically. That’s exactly what some people have done now. A “leak generator” has been floating around on the platform 4chan for a few days. It is loosely based on the leaks of the past months – both those that have come true and those that were entirely made up.
Random Leaks – from convincing to ridiculous
With just one click, the generator creates a somewhat plausible leak that answers several questions:
- Who is the leak creator?
- Which new hero is Blizzard working on?
- Who is getting a new cinematic?
- Which map is coming next?
Basically, the generator is quite simple and just swaps a few keywords. But the results are likely to make most fans chuckle. Here’s an example that doesn’t quite convince through its sensibility:
“Blizzard has already fired me… so I can reveal this right here.
They are currently working on a control map, and it’s really cool. We don’t have maps in this location yet, so the team decided to set a map in Sweden. On a vertical level, there are a few crazy things, and then there’s this “sticky” wall that heroes can climb, but they fall down if stunned or pushed.
Additionally, the next hero is now entering the animation phase. The next hero is called “Peaceviolet”. She’s a mix of tank and support, with some similarities to Torbjörn. She has this cool ability called Dragonwatch. We believe it’s a really great ability that is quite uncomfortable for heroes with low health. It makes them bad at eliminating weak targets.
Furthermore, there will soon be some animated shorts featuring Roadhog and McCree.”
Especially amusing is that the generator doesn’t take itself too seriously. Some “leaks” simply start with “Hey, I’m Jeff Kaplan from the Overwatch team and this is what we’re working on”. Who wouldn’t find that immediately convincing?
