A live-action film tells an alternative story to Mercy’s background from Overwatch. The fans have really put in a lot of effort.
No other game seems to have gathered such a large fan base so quickly as the hero shooter Overwatch from Blizzard. This is reflected not only in active participation in forums and social media but also in numerous fan creations. The cosplay scene, in particular, thrives remarkably well thanks to the many colorful and memorable characters.
But where there are costumes, they must occasionally be showcased. The YouTube channel Lupin Productions has created a nearly 7-minute video about the hero Mercy – in live-action format. Here you can watch the video “Heroes Never Die” in full length:
It should be noted that the story told does not correspond to Blizzard’s official lore and does not claim to be historically accurate. It is “merely” a fan creation with a modified story that could explain from the fans’ perspective why Angela Ziegler became the Mercy we know today.
Cortyn says: I’m still having a bit of trouble seeing the costumes of the Overwatch world in the “real” world, which just doesn’t seem to quite match the style.
Nevertheless, one must appreciate the effort and the work put in, especially since the end result is quite convincing. I would love to see more such fan projects, as they represent, in my view, a valuable enrichment of the game’s fan culture. I also found the reasoning behind Mercy’s quote “Heroes never die” quite touching.
