Blizzard is pursuing a relentless policy against cheaters and hackers in Overwatch . They get exactly one chance.
Cheaters have exactly one attempt in Overwatch
Nothing ruins the fun of the game like an opponent who resorts to unfair tricks. Overwatch will not be spared in the long run from users of bots and hacks trying out the game. Blizzard has already made it clear in the forum that there will be zero tolerance for cheaters. After all, the developers uphold the motto “Play nice, play fair” which applies not only as a design philosophy but also to supporting players after the launch.
“What does this mean for Overwatch? If a player is found cheating – or using hacks, bots, or any other software that gives an unfair advantage – that player will be permanently banned, period. Cheating undermines not only the spirit of “fair play” that all our products are based on, but it also diminishes the enjoyment of the game for others.”
Nevertheless, Blizzard is unlikely to make major announcements regarding bans, but that doesn’t mean they won’t take action.
At the community’s request, Blizzard will add a feature to report potential cheaters directly via chat, as is already the case in other games. However, according to the community manager, anyone wishing to report another player for cheating should keep a few things in mind:
- The camera system in Overwatch does not always show gameplay scenes with the same accuracy as actual gameplay. This means that in the kill cam, the “Play of the Game”, personal highlights, and to a lesser extent also the spectator camera, are not always 100% accurate. As a result, gameplay may appear less smooth and players’ aiming may seem “jerkier” than it actually was.
- Bugs in the camera system cannot be ruled out either. In the past, there have been some issues with certain hero abilities. Currently, there are no known errors, but that does not mean they do not exist.
- There are simply very good shooter players. Through years of practice and experience, the movements and reactions of these players may seem unnatural and impossible for those who have never encountered this level of skill before.
Finally, it is pointed out that evidence, such as recorded scenes from the kill cam or “Play of the Game”, can be useful, but a ban decision will never be made solely based on such videos. Additionally, “Play nice, play fair” also applies to players reporting a potential cheater: Use the reporting system and do not accuse them by name in public.
