The gameplay of Overwatch changes massively through friends. Absurd tactics and a hell of a fun are in the foreground.
Absurd ideas in Overwatch are twice as fun with friends
When I first reported on Overwatch a few months ago, I was quite skeptical. Alone, the game was entertaining, but it could never really convince me – plain and simple because I was only relying on “nameless randoms”.
But obviously, it applies what always applies to Blizzard games: Alone is not really the deal, with friends it is a great pleasure. It is amazing how much the gameplay of Overwatch changes when you simply go into battle with 3 friends. Especially absurd and funny tactics (4-6 Tracers in the team or 4-6 Reinhardts) completely change the game feeling. When the big blue wall of shields slowly marches towards the opponents, it may not be the most effective way, but definitely the funniest. Especially funny is a combination of Roadhog and 2-3 Symmetras. The ladies with the organizational obsession fill a small room with their turrets and Roadhog then simply stands in the room to pull anyone “innocent” in with his hook. You can repeat that approximately every 8 seconds and it quickly becomes a running gag – both for the opposing team and your own.
Almost just as silly is a combination of 4-6 D.Vas, all saving their ultimate ability for the same moment – with that, you can almost cover the whole map in a devastating explosion, which (at least temporarily) leads to a rather empty battlefield.
Sure, these methods are not necessarily particularly effective, but they are fun and that for both sides, because it is so delightfully absurd (quite the opposite of 6 Torbjörns – nobody has fun there). The combination of absurd tactics, paired with friends on Skype or Teamspeak makes Overwatch already in the open beta a pretty good entertainment. Overwatch is, when played with friends, a completely different game than alone. That will certainly change as soon as the ranked mode is introduced, but even then you can still have a lot of fun in quickmatch – the gameplay and the playstyles of the heroes in Overwatch change massively when you go into battle with friends.
Blizzard’s plan to generate massive interest in the game through the open beta seems – at least when I look around in my private environment – to be completely working. The last time we had so much fun as a group in a shooter was in Left 4 Dead 2 – and that involved zombies and exploding heads.
