Overwatch is a team shooter and should be played as such. Lone wolf Rambo types are not welcome here. However, certain combinations and hero combos work better than others. Therefore, we have compiled a few particularly cool combos in our guide.
There are currently 21 heroes in Overwatch and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. However, some heroes become particularly strong when playing alongside one or two specific other characters. We present 7 good combinations. Also, don’t miss our guide for hero counters!
Take them all down! – Reinhardt and McCree
Cowboy McCree does not like to be rushed. Not even during his ultimate, with which he delivers six headshots after a bit of preparation. However, during this phase, he can be easily interrupted or taken down himself, and the nice ultimate is wasted!
Therefore, he needs a buddy who distracts the enemies and optimally prepares for the headshot. And this buddy is Reinhardt! The futuristic knight from Stuttgart can safely guide McCree behind his shield into the combat area and with his own ultimate, slam all enemies in the vicinity to the ground. By the time they get back up, McCree can leisurely trigger his ultimate and take everyone down!
Rough Riders! – McCree and Lucio
As already mentioned, McCree moves rather sluggishly. His low speed is a significant disadvantage for the cowboy, as he often can’t take cover in time to reload his six-shooter revolver.
Therefore, the lively DJ Lucio is a good partner for the grim gunslinger. Lucio is not only fast as the wind, but he can also offer this speed boost to his teammates in the vicinity. And McCree benefits greatly from this.
Gravity kills! – Zarya and Pharah, Tracer, Junkrat, Hanzo, etc.
The bear-like Russian Zarya has both the worst and the strongest ultimate in the game. The ability is only bad when Zarya is traveling alone because the ultimate only holds enemies in range at a specific spot for a few seconds.
This only rocks if you coordinate the ultimate with your teammates, who then send in their own ultimates afterward. Preferably ults that take a long time to prepare and deal high area damage, especially Pharah’s barrage. But Tracer’s sticky bomb, Junkrat’s exploding tire, and Hanzo’s dragon strike are also very effective.
Flank Terror! – Zenyatta and Reaper
Reaper is a truly devilish character who strikes from ambush and can appear at any time in the enemy’s flank via teleportation and shadow form and cause terror there. However, Reaper is not very durable and lacks healing ability for prolonged operations.
However, the “healing-over-time” from the robo-Zen monk Zenyatta is ideal for Reaper, as he can still be healed while in shadow form, and Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord makes marked targets take 50 percent more damage. This allows Reaper to quickly eliminate even extremely strong opponents, and thanks to Zenyatta, he can also survive to continue doing so throughout the game.
Death Trap! – Bastion, Torbjörn, and Symmetra
Want to secure a position really well? Then use this trio and turn every position into a death trap. Because Torbjörn builds a very powerful turret that, together with Bastion in stationary mode, secures the main attack route optimally. But what about the flanks? Here comes Symmetra into play. The Indian architect and elite fighter can build small turrets and place up to six of them anywhere.
Preferably on walls behind doors and passages. This is often enough to weaken or even kill weak flank fighters like Tracer or Reaper. Additionally, you will notice when your turrets are destroyed that the enemy is coming from the side and can easily launch a counterattack.
Sudden Death! – Hanzo and Widowmaker
Hanzo’s dragon strike is a real killer attack that can wipe out entire teams. Unfortunately, the dragon itself is very slow and usually seen coming from a distance. However, the dragon can also pass through walls and obstacles and can suddenly strike at entrenched enemies. If only you knew where they were hiding…
Hanzo can indeed look a little through walls with a sonar arrow, but the effect duration is usually too short to really send the dragon on its journey effectively. However, if Widowmaker is there and enables wallhacks with her ultimate for a long time, Hanzo can aim really well and launch a surprise killer attack while the enemy team gathers in supposed safety behind a wall to attack.
The Russian Death Star! – Zarya, Mercy, Zenyatta
This combination is a bit complex but very powerful. Because the Russian bodybuilder Zarya has enormous damage potential, which must first be built up. For this, she must first take damage with her shield to unleash multiple times that damage with her particle cannon.
As the damage shield only lasts a short time, she also needs healing. This is where Zenyatta comes in with his healing orb, providing Zarya with a nice “heal over time” and marking her current opponent with an Orb of Discord. And so that Zarya can hit even harder, Mercy is always floating together with them, who also enhances Zarya’s performance with her damage boost. When the enemy then goes for the supposedly defenseless supporters, Zarya gives them a shield and gains even more charge for her cannon.
If we calculate this all together, a fully loaded Zarya has a damage output of 160 damage/second, gets 30% more from Mercy, and the target suffers a total of 50% more damage from Zenyatta’s orb. This means:
160 (fully charged Zarya) x 1.3 (Mercy) = 208 damage/second x 1.5 (against opponents with Orb of Discord) = 312 damage/second!! This means Zarya can grill even an army of Roadhogs, Reinhardts, and Winstons in a few seconds and since she is well protected by shields and healing effects, she can keep firing without being shot down!That’s it for our combo ideas.
