Players are annoyed by the colorblind mode in Overwatch. It is just a bad color filter and not a real help.
Most games have different settings for people who suffer from color blindness. Since there are different types of impairments with color blindness (some can only see certain colors), there are often multiple settings in current games meant to accommodate color blindness.
Overwatch also has a menu option where the “colorblind mode” can be determined. But that is absolutely not enough for those affected, as the player Kolorbastion explained on Reddit. His post received nearly 20,000 upvotes after just one day – a rarity in the Overwatch subreddit.
In Overwatch, the settings for color blindness are not “real” settings, but merely a color filter that is applied over the entire game.
“What does the colorblind mode do in this game? It is a filter that transforms every single color on your screen into another color. For example, one of the colorblind settings is called Tritanopia mode. In theory, it colors the bad guys purple and the good ones in a lush green; perfect, right?
If only it were so! It not only colors the opponents purple, it colors THE WHOLE GAME purple – which means purple borders, interface, and the whole damn map. Everything. It also switches all blue to green, making Overwatch look like a crazy acid trip. Here is an example:”
This looks not only ridiculous according to Kolorbastion, but it also helps him hardly to see opponents better – and that is exactly what the mode should actually do.
“Using this mode is very confusing and chaotic(…). I am forced to play this way and I hate it. I want to see the game as it should be, I want to see the green grass and the blue sky and the cool skins without it being ruined by all this purple and green mess.
Besides that, I still have problems because – well – the bad guys are purple and so is everything else on the map – it is still damn hard to see them.”
Blizzard has not commented on this topic so far.
