Enough with the fun in Overwatch. Anyone who misbehaves now will be permanently banned.
For many months now, Blizzard has promised that they are working hard on harsher penalties for trolls and “Throwers” in Overwatch. With the latest patch 1.15 (PC) or 2.19 (PS4, Xbox One), the developers have finally put their promise into action and started to overhaul the reporting system – or to implement it on consoles for the first time.
In the official forum, Blizzard has now “threatened” and clearly explained how the bans will take place.
Starting from September 27 (next Wednesday), stricter rules will apply in Overwatch, which will initially only affect the ranked game mode.
- Anyone banned from 3 ranked seasons will receive a permanent ban from “Competitive Play”.
- The 3 bans do not have to occur in consecutive seasons. For example, if someone was banned in seasons 2, 4, and 7, they will also receive a perma-ban.
It is also pointed out that bans do not “expire” over time – anyone who misbehaved early in their Overwatch career can still be affected by it later.
Furthermore, Blizzard explains once again what can lead to a ban in Overwatch – in the ranked mode.
Anyone who leaves a game early or is kicked for inactivity will receive a penalty. If such an offense occurs repeatedly in quick succession (for example, in several consecutive games), there will be temporary penalties that keep increasing and ultimately lead to exclusion from the entire season. This also includes the seasonal rewards that one may have already earned.
Do you think it’s good that Blizzard is now showing “tough love”? Or is that still not enough and shouldn’t it take 3 seasons for a player to be permanently banned?
