Would it sometimes be better to be able to just give up in Overwatch ? Jeff Kaplan commented in the forum on the demand from some players.
In Overwatch there will be no “Give Up” function – for now
If Overwatch’s matchmaking system works as intended, then the games are relatively balanced. A constant back and forth, where both sides progress faster or slower at times. However, there are also plenty of matches where you face an seemingly insurmountable force and lose the first control point in less than 40 seconds. Wouldn’t it be good in such a situation, especially in ranked mode, to simply give up to spare the time and nerves of everyone involved?
Jeff Kaplan, the game director of Overwatch, has now addressed this in the official forum.
“Currently we do not agree with the opinion that the game needs a give up function, especially given the length of our rounds in “Quick Match”. We are taking steps to further shorten the duration of rounds in Season 2 (reduced gathering phase in “Time Bank”, for instance). We continue to monitor the situation, but currently there are no plans to make giving up an option.”
Mein-MMO says: Basically, we can only agree with Jeff Kaplan’s opinion. While it can certainly be appropriate to wave the white flag in games like League of Legends, where a match can last 40 or 50 minutes, the matches in Overwatch are simply too short. Moreover, many matches are decided in the last moments. The last meters that need to be escorted to the payload are often the hardest for the attackers, as the defenders have the shortest distance to run.
