Which hero to choose at the beginning? 4 beginner-friendly heroes in Overwatch
If you have only played Blizzard games so far, you have not come into contact with FPS shooters. In Overwatch, which is currently in open beta, there are many playable heroes, but not all of them are equally suitable for beginners. We show you 4 characters with which you can quickly achieve success without a lot of shooter experience.
Reinhardt – Stable tank with a clear purpose
Every good team needs a character that can take some hits. Therefore, for fans of classic tanks, the German knight Reinhardt is a good choice. He is massive and thus an easy target – but that is exactly what he is supposed to be. With his blue shield, he can absorb a lot of fire for himself and his team without taking damage – friends can shoot through the barrier.
With his hammer, he dishes out heavy damage in close combat but can also hurl fireballs at enemies that penetrate all barriers. Finally, his ultimate stuns opponents in the targeted area for several seconds, making them easy prey for everyone. That he can charge and squish any “soft” character with a hit goes without saying, right?
Soldier: 76 – Offensive character with simple mechanics
Easy to understand and simple in its mechanics, the offensive hero Soldier: 76 is a great choice. If you’re coming from other shooters, you should pick this character, as his abilities are easy to understand and use. With his assault rifle, he deals high damage at medium range. Unlike other heroes, he can sprint indefinitely, making him quickly back in action.
As an ultimate ability, he has an integrated aimbot – for a few seconds, all his bullets will hit an enemy as long as they are roughly in Soldier: 76’s line of sight.
Symmetra – Support character without a demanding “healer role”
If you like to support your team but don’t want to be pushed into a classic healer role, you might be happy with Symmetra. She can grant all allies a shield that increases maximum hit points by 25 and regenerates quickly. Important chokepoints can be fortified with small turrets. If multiple of these are stacked in one place, many heroes will fall in a fraction of a second.
The damage of her weapon is not outstanding and only effective at close range, but it is homing – precise aiming with the crosshairs is not necessary. The ultimate, a teleporter for the entire team, shortens the travel times for all players.
Torbjörn – Defensive character with a powerful turret
If you like to secure points and play proactively, you’ll find an easy entry with Torbjörn. The tinkerer can build a turret anywhere, which he can then upgrade to level 2 with his hammer (which he should always do). The turret will automatically fire at enemies. From defeated enemies, you gain “scrap,” which can be converted into armor that benefits the entire team. The weapon has two firing modes for close and long-range combat, and the ultimate boosts both Torbjörn and his turret, which can turn the tide of many battles.
Despite these beginner heroes, you should remember that in Overwatch you can change your character after each death. Often it is also necessary to outsmart the enemy’s hero combination.
