A small, secret change has made it into the current Overwatch patch. Most players are happy about it and are developing a whole new “sports spirit”.
A shot, a hit (in the basketball hoop)
As with so many patches these days, not all changes are written in the accompanying notes. Sometimes it’s because the information is simply too unimportant or because it has been forgotten. In this case, the change to Overwatch was probably “secret” because they didn’t want to take away the players’ anticipation of the “new feature”.
Most players already know the basketball hoop from the various landing ships in Overwatch – for attackers, that is the spawn area on many maps. To pass the time until the round finally starts, players often try to shoot, hit, kick, or explode various balls into the basketball hoop. More than once, someone suddenly shouted in voice chat, “Yes! I did it!” – “I made it!”. But usually, no one believed it because at the crucial moment no one was watching.
To reward the endurance of these fans (and because it’s just funny), the basketball hoop now has its own sound and a confetti animation when someone manages to get the ball through the ring. The streamer “Anne Munition” has captured the whole thing on video – even if no one knows exactly who made the basket.
Mein-MMO says: This is certainly not the big game changer, apart from the possible moral buff for the scoring team, but it shows that the developers of Overwatch still have a sense of humor and listen to the wishes of the fans. Often, in recent weeks on Reddit, one saw videos where players managed to sink the ball after hours of practice. There, players have also called for a new challenge. Getting the “Play of the Game” as Torbjörn, using the turret, while sinking the ball. May the games begin.
