We have five things for you that are important in Overwatch – but are not mentioned anywhere. Do you know all these tips and tricks?
Armor in Overwatch reduces damage taken
Although Overwatch has a tutorial that is more or less forced upon players at the start of the game, the game certainly does not teach all the mechanics that are relevant. Some of these things can sometimes save a hero’s life if only they had known beforehand. We have put together some tips for you.
- The payload heals the attacking team! The team that has to deliver a payload from A to B is healed by the payload – by 10 health points per second.
- Armor (such as that which Torbjörn can provide) not only increases maximum health but also reduces damage taken! Armor has a unique mechanic that absorbs damage. As long as a character has armor, incoming damage is reduced by 50%, but no more than 5 damage points per source. In simple terms, this means that weapons with many small bullets, like shotguns or assault rifles, are mitigated more than single shots, like rockets.

- Characters with multiple weapons automatically reload when they switch their weapon. However, this does not happen instantly but takes the normal reload time. (Example: A Mercy shoots with her Caduceus pistol until she has only 1 shot left. Then she switches to her staff and heals an ally. The next time she switches back to her pistol, it is fully reloaded.)
- Most weapons become weaker when used at long range, as damage decreases. The exception is all 4 support characters, the two snipers, Genji, D.Va’s pistol, and Torbjörn’s primary fire.
- Each character has unique sound effects for their footsteps. Those who pay attention can recognize which enemy is coming around the corner based solely on their footsteps after a while. However, there is one exception: Zenyatta hovers and therefore has no footstep sounds, making him the only silent character (as long as he does not act).
