A touch of Minecraft is in the air when playing Overwatch in this unusual resolution.
In games like Overwatch, you usually try to get the most out of the game. The focus is on satisfactory graphics with stable, high FPS rates. Sometimes, you make a compromise between the two factors and have to lower the graphics to achieve higher FPS rates. The video shows how the game looks when the resolution is altered dramatically and played on the lowest settings, as demonstrated by YouTuber MinorVidsPC.
Resolution Below Minimum
In the video, the resolution is gradually reduced until a resolution of about 100×105 is reached. To achieve this low resolution, MinorVidsPC enabled windowed mode and modified values in the settings file of Overwatch. This allowed him to go below the specified minimum resolution of the game.
In the comments, MinorVidsPC mentions that he plays Overwatch on PC at a resolution of 640×480 to achieve stable FPS.
As a test, we entered a resolution of 300×300 in the settings file and got this small window that conveniently fits in the (non-maximized) BattleNet client. Playing like this is a challenge, which looks even more interesting when YouTube upscales the video. If this becomes a trend, we might soon be able to play Overwatch on the Gameboy Color or similar devices.
Anyone wanting to play Overwatch more realistically can even do so with VR equipment.
