Black Myth: Wukong has launched and not with a crash landing. The game currently attracts up to 1 million players on Steam, even leaving big names like Elden Ring behind.
How popular is Black Myth: Wukong right now? Very popular, if you look at the numbers in the Steam charts. According to these, Black Myth: Wukong has a peak of 1,443,570 players on Steam and 1,427,933 active players currently (via steamdb.info as of August 20 at 09:02). This is remarkable considering that this is a completely new brand created by an indie studio.
When comparing the peak numbers with other big names, it becomes clear that Black Myth: Wukong easily beats them. These include:
- DOTA 2 with 1,295,114 players
- Elden Ring with 953,426 players
- Lost Ark with 1,325,305 players
- Cyberpunk 2077 with 1,054,388 players
Only against PUBG, Counter Strike, and Palworld does the game from Gaming Science so far concede defeat, but who knows, maybe the numbers could still rise.
Update 15:30 – Even several hours after launch, the numbers for Black Myth: Wukong are strong. The game has now exceeded the mark of 2.1 million concurrent players. However, the player numbers seem somewhat unusual.
As Michael Hoss from the German developer and publisher Deck12 shows on X, the number of players has hardly changed over several hours. This could indicate that the player count is being artificially inflated in some way – but it doesn’t have to be. We’ll keep you updated; until then, the impressive numbers should probably be taken with caution.
Black Myth: Wukong is currently delivering on its promises
How does Black Myth Wukong run on console? Smoothly and clearly, not just on console. While many waiting had feared that the game would just be a graphical gimmick that might offer poor performance, they have now been proven wrong at the release.
Fans were already able to check out the tutorial and fight the first boss, and these few recordings already show that the game is well optimized so far. Here is a short clip for you from Reddit so that you can see for yourself:
Effects and the environment are well animated, and there is no stuttering or graphics problems, as one would normally find in such elaborate graphic projects from large studios.
Can you already play Black Myth: Wukong? Yes, the game has been available to play in Germany since 4 AM. Unfortunately, only the PS5 and PC versions are currently active. The Xbox players among you still have to wait because the team still needs to optimize this version of the game.
