The 2nd season of One Piece will premiere in 2026 on Netflix. It features an actor showcasing the set where a particularly touching moment takes place. Make sure to have tissues ready!
Which set is it? The actor Clive Russell, whom you might know from Game of Thrones, will play the former ship’s doctor Krokus in the Netflix series of One Piece.
In a new video on X uploaded on the official account, he takes the viewers to the set where we first meet the whale Laboon. By the way, you can also see how the whale and Krokus will look in the series on the account.
Next to the Straw Hat Pirates’ ship, recognizable by Nami’s orange trees, we see a destroyed shipwreck. According to Russell, it embodies an “enormous power” and at the same time an “extraordinary vulnerability”.
For the actor, this is a particularly emotional moment, as he becomes aware of the loneliness of his character and the tragic backstory of Laboon. In keeping with this, Netflix writes on its account that Russell’s set visit is full of heart.

Why is the scene so sad? Laboon was a young whale and a member of a pirate crew. However, before entering the Grand Line, the young one had to be left behind, as it became too dangerous on the fabled sea.
The pirate crew promised to pick Laboon up again once they had sailed around the Grand Line. As we know from the manga, however, the promise cannot be fulfilled as intended. And so the whale has been waiting for 52 years to finally be picked up.
Krokus has also been looking after the whale for just as long. He is a lighthouse keeper overseeing the gateway to the Grand Line. The two have thus spent several decades together in shared loneliness, without the certainty of whether Laboon will ever be picked up.
Could they be important for the finale? By the end of One Piece, Laboon will hopefully be reunited with the pirate crew – or at least with the part that is still left of him.
