The Thanos in the Marvel movies is quite a nasty guy. But his worst deeds are not found in the MCU. Even when he seems to be doing something good, he brings chaos to Earth.
What has Thanos done? In the MCU, Thanos appears as a pretty evil villain. Even though he allegedly wants to save the universe, he creates dictatorships and destruction on many planets. But that’s nothing compared to comic Thanos. On one hand, he has no (allegedly) honorable goal, he just wants to impress a woman, on the other hand, he is quite malicious and often acts just for the fun of despair.
In the comic Thanos Annual No. 1 (2016-2018), the Cosmic Ghost Rider tells about Thanos’ worst deeds. For instance, he has been visiting a poor guy for 50 years just to torment him. But much worse was helping an old lady across the street.
The Butterfly Effect
Why was that evil? In the comic, the Cosmic Ghost Rider tells us a short story that begins with Thanos helping an old lady across the street. But the Ghost Rider introduces the story with warning words: A story that is not for the faint-hearted. A story so terrifying, so frightening, so petrifying with horror.
Thanos helps the grandma, says a few nice words and the woman thanks him. All the people around are incredibly scared of the villain. But why did the nasty Thanos do that?
When Thanos helps the lady across the street, he stops a bus in which Stephanie Kircher is sitting. She was supposed to be responsible for curing diseases, ending world hunger, and stopping inequality, but because Thanos delayed the bus, she never met the person who initiated it.
Because of the butterfly effect, Stephanie lived a completely normal life, but as she aged, she became more frustrated because she hadn’t achieved anything special. But Thanos did not only ensure that despair remained on Earth; he also rubbed it in Stephanie’s face.
As she lay dying, the villain visited her and showed her everything she could have achieved. So Thanos not only destroyed the lives of many people on Earth, he reveled in the fact that he stole one person’s life.
A Nasty Sadist
Why does Thanos do such things? If you’ve only seen the MCU movies, you don’t know that Thanos in the comics is often evil just for the sake of being evil. He often has no great motivation; he just wants to spread despair, not just among the heroes.
Moreover, he often acts sadistically. There is the version King Thanos
who has killed almost everything in the universe. Although he is the ruler of everything, there is nothing except the Hulk, whom he keeps on a leash, and the Cosmic Ghost Rider (via Marvel Database).
In the comic series Thanos: Rising (2013), he kills countless children because he is searching for his son (via SlashFilm).
Although Thanos has sometimes helped the heroes, in the comics he is often a sadistic guy who not only wants to impress death but also enjoys making life hell for people and heroes. A DC villain also knows about this: The biggest bastard in DC is neither the Joker nor Lex Luthor; it is a former fan of The Flash
