With the announcement of the current expansion Janthir Wilds, the developers of Guild Wars 2 promised to design a new PvP mode with the community. Now there are finally details about it.
What is planned for Guild Wars 2? In the context of the announcement of Janthir Wilds, the developers at ArenaNet had already hinted that there would be a new PvP mode. Now the official presentation has followed!
In “Incursion”, you can expect battles between two 5-player teams, where you must transport an item to the enemy base while simultaneously preventing the opponent from reaching your base.
Starting on September 10, 2024 (from 9:00 PM), interested players can test the prototype of the map and provide feedback to influence further development. The test is scheduled to run until September 23 at 2:00 AM. On September 6, the developers will introduce the new PvP mode for the first time on Twitch, starting at 9:00 PM.
With “Incursion”, ArenaNet aims to provide an accessible and as entertaining as possible PvP experience, where newcomers and casual players can also have fun (“casual alternative”). The goal is to make PvP in Guild Wars 2 appealing to players so that they will also try out other content.
What else was announced? On September 21, 2024 (9:00 PM), the next round of the Legends Tournament will start, which will now take place every six months.

Finally new content for PvP fans
What is the current status of Guild Wars 2? Actually, there is a good mood in Tyria right now.
- With Janthir Wilds released on August 20, 2024, it has excited many parts of the community with the mobile Warclaw mount, the fresh housing feature, and the design of the new regions.
- Even before the release of the expansion, the MeinMMO community had voted Guild Wars 2 as the third best MMORPG of all time for PC and consoles.
- One reason for this: The strong complete package that appeals especially to collectors, casual players, and PvE fans while also leaving time for other games. Guild Wars 2 is simply worth it even in 2024.
- In addition, Guild Wars 2 has earned the reputation of being one of the currently relevant MMORPGs with the fairest payment model.
- With Guild Wars 3 already in the works at ArenaNet.
So is everything good in Tyria? Well, almost. Because “Incursion” is indeed the most exciting new feature for PvP fans in years.
Why is there a need for action? While PvE enthusiasts have been able to regularly enjoy new content and challenges since the launch, fans of player-versus-player encounters have repeatedly had to exercise patience for long periods.
A good example of this is the World vs. World area. In February 2018, the developers announced a major overhaul of the game mode. Today, more than six years later, it is still in beta status.
Things are hardly better with other PvP content. While there are new seasons, rewards, and regular balancing adjustments as well as hotfixes, there has long been a lack of fresh content and modes. Accordingly, it is very important and correct that ArenaNet is now providing new content with “Incursion”.
Did you know that Guild Wars 2 can bring people together? In a special piece, MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz revealed why he met his wife through a Guild Wars 2 contest: “My wife won me in a Guild Wars 2 contest” – as a consolation prize, so to speak
