The prequel movies of Star Wars have brought forth a rather hated character who will soon have a new chance to convince skeptics of his worth.
Which character are we talking about? Of course, we mean Jar Jar Binks. The slightly clueless side character was introduced in Episode 1 and returned in the subsequent two films. He also appeared in other media such as series, comics, or audiobooks.
Many fans are still bothered by the silly humor that the character brings and feel that he doesn’t really fit into Star Wars. Especially the prequels, which are mostly quite serious and dark, suffer from Jar Jar disrupting one or the other scene with his behavior. This led, among other things, to low rankings in our ranking of all movies.
However, in 2026, the character will have another chance and will even become the main character of his own story.
A well-deserved comeback?
What does Jar Jar’s return look like? Lucasfilm announced at a panel at Comic Con in New York that the character will receive his own comic, published by Marvel Comics.
It is a one-shot, meaning a single, self-contained story. According to current knowledge, it is simply titled “Jar Jar”.
The official description already reveals the following (via cbr.com):
Jar Jar must face the consequences arising from the transfer of emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine. What crucial role does Jar Jar play in the founding of the Rebel Alliance? Featuring a guest appearance by the fan-favorite Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq!
The role of Jar Jar in the turmoil of the slowly dying democracy of the Republic is set to be explored in more detail. It’s also exciting that he is supposed to meet the Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq. This character made his debut in the web series Jedi Temple Challenge and is played by none other than Ahmed Best – the same actor who also portrayed Jar Jar Binks.
The latter performance received a lot of negative feedback, even leading to hate. Nevertheless, he returned to Star Wars and will also play an important role in the new comic. He is part of the author team, which consists of multiple people.
When will the comic be released? An exact date has not yet been set; Marvel Comics has only indicated February 2026 as the timeframe. However, this information applies to the English-language edition, while the German version may take a bit longer to arrive.
It will be interesting to see if Jar Jar will receive a new facet, and whether the fans’ opinion of him will change. Ahmed Best’s involvement gives hope that the character is in good hands.
