With Where Winds Meet, one of the most exciting open-world RPGs of recent years is set to release. The developers have now revealed how things will proceed after the release.
What kind of game is this? Where Winds Meet is a Wuxia action RPG developed by Everstone Studios, published by NetEase Games. The Wuxia genre combines real martial arts with fantasy elements.
The setting is China in the 10th century. As a young swordsman, you traverse the land during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, a time of great turmoil and political intrigue. The country is divided and splintered into several kingdoms after the fall of the Tang Dynasty, vying for power.
At the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2025, alongside a new trailer, there were also initial details about the developers’ plans for the post-release period.
You can see the new trailer from TGS 2025 here:
Two major starting regions, with more to follow in seasons
What to expect at launch: Where Winds Meet adopts a free-to-play model and launches with two large regions – Qinghe and Kaifeng. Each region comes with its own storyline that aims to immerse you deeper into the main story and the past of the characters.
MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya has already spent 10 hours in a beta version of the game. She says: Where Winds Meet is the craziest open-world RPG in a long time, if it weren’t for all these menus!
What happens after the release? The game world of Where Winds Meet is intended to be continuously expanded. The developers are using a season model for this. Each season should last about three months.
The season updates are also intended to differ in their focus:
- Some seasons advance the main storyline and include new regions and characters.
- Others provide new gameplay or time-limited activities for you to engage with.
- Enhanced social features and character progression are also possible contents of such a season update.
Despite its free-to-play approach, Where Winds Meet is not a traditional MMORPG. There is a single-player mode, but also plenty of MMO elements. Where Winds Meet releases on November 14, 2025, for PC (Steam) and PS5.
MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya sees a lot of potential in Where Winds Meet after the beta, which somehow tries to be everything. However, for this reason, it might struggle in the West.
