Originally, Conan Exiles was announced as a strong survival MMO as a free game for the Epic Games Store. However, shortly before the release, Epic retracted.
What was intended: Originally, two new free games were supposed to be waiting for you in the Epic Games Store on July 2nd at 5 PM. These were the puzzle-adventure “Hue” and “Conan Exiles” – one of the best survival MMOs ever.
Epic changes its mind: Instead of both games, now only “Hue” will be the free game this week. In the case of Conan Exiles, the Epic Games Store team changed its decision, as it announced just less than an hour before the scheduled release time:
However, this is not a postponement of the free game, but a completely new plan. Instead of offering “Conan Exiles” for free, the game will be available for purchase in the store “at a later time”.
Fans unhappy with Conan decision
Here are the reactions: For the most part, the decision is taken negatively. Some fans feel reminded of “The Escapists 2”, which was also supposed to come as a free game a few weeks ago and then did not appear. The difference: In the case of “The Escapists 2”, the free release was merely postponed to the coming week due to errors.
In contrast, Conan will not appear as a free game at this point. By the way, Epic did not provide further details on the reasons for this.
- “You better not do that with Escapists 2 too,” expressed a user (via Twitter) already worried about the previously postponed game.
- Another user sees the process as “False Advertising” (via Twitter)
- Another suggests: “Then make ‘Save the World’ free instead” (via Twitter) – this is the PvE mode in Fortnite, which recently caused a lot of excitement.
So anyone who hoped to get Conan Exiles as a free game from the Epic Games Store soon will have to look for something else for now. By the way: Those who already own Conan Exiles but have seen everything should check out the numerous mods. They can turn Conan Exiles into a completely different game.
