Valheim has incredibly strong ratings on Steam and has been continuously developed for years. In 2026, the game is expected to be fully complete, meaning: it will celebrate its 1.0 release. Now the creators directly announce that Valheim will also be coming to the PS5, voiced by one of the most recognizable voices in gaming recently.
What kind of game is it?
- In Valheim, you play a Viking who, after his death, is supposed to fight the enemies of Allfather Odin in the eponymous world Valheim.
- Valheim comes with classic survival elements such as building and crafting, as well as a now significantly expanded combat system. Food is not necessary for survival, but provides strong buffs.
- The survival game does without elaborate graphics and instead features a retro look. The focus is on exploring various biomes (including the sea!) and fighting against powerful bosses, through which you earn progress.
This is what Valheim has announced now: In the latest trailer, the developers show a small preview of Valheim in its complete release state. Just on September 9, a new update called “Call to Arms” was released, paving the way for the 1.0 version.
The trailer not only announces that Valheim will leave early access in 2026, the survival game will also be released on the PS5. Currently, it is only playable on PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox. However, there is no specific date yet.
In the video, you can hear Neil Newbon, the voice actor of Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3. Newbon seems to be in demand at many studios right now, as he has helped a new sci-fi RPG find the right focus.
Before the release, the developers want to refine a few more features. The game is already rated “very positive” on Steam with 94% and has been one of the best survival games on the market since its surprising breakthrough in 2021.
A lot of improvements on the way to the 1.0 release
Since the start of early access, the developers wanted to continuously polish their game to put it in an presentable state for the 1.0 version. A lot has happened since then that you might have missed:
- The huge update Hearth & Home has improved the building mechanics and introduced improved farming into the game.
- With the Mistlands, the first new biome released back then, along with a magic system.
- The Bog Witch has introduced a new merchant with the Swamp Witch that you can find in the world.
- The Ashlands are the currently newest biome full of lava and fire.
Finally, Call to Arms fundamentally improved the combat system. There are new armors, weapons, and enemies, as well as the ability to improve your combat skills at a training dummy in your own base.
Despite the unusual appearance, Valheim has sold over 12 million copies according to the publisher, and still has almost 50,000 peak players on Steam (according to steamcharts). Additionally, there are players on Xbox and soon on the PS5.
