Fortnite takes on additional features from the battle royale competitor Apex Legends. The popular respawn beacons seem to be in Fortnite as well, if one is to believe an accidental leak in an official stream.
What was leaked where? The official mini-tournament Blackheart Solo Cup recently took place in Fortnite. It was streamed officially and commented on by casters. However, at the end of the round, curious delivery trucks with holograms suddenly appeared at Polar Peak and Retail Row.
These were apparently the “Respawn Vans“, which have been circulating through the dataminer rumor mill for some time now.
What are Respawn Vans? According to dataminers, Respawn Vans are Fortnite’s version of respawn beacons. They are a cool feature of Apex Legends, the surprise hit battle royale game from EA and Respawn Entertainment.
The developers there analyzed one of the major downsides of BR games and found a solution. Because Fortnite, PUBG, and similar games are only exciting as long as you are still alive in the game. But one mistake can be the last one.

Those who get taken out and are not revived in time are permanently out and, in the worst case, have to wait until their friends finish before they can continue playing.
In Apex Legends, however, teammates can still retrieve their friend’s tag up to 100 seconds after their death and deliver it to any respawn beacon at any time. The player can then re-enter the game from there.
The Respawn Vans in Fortnite are likely to function similarly. It wouldn’t be the first time that Fortnite takes over features from Apex.
Caster ignores new feature
How were the Respawn Vans revealed in the stream? The vans were probably not supposed to be in the game yet, but somehow they were already in play during the Blackheart Cup.

Since it was a solo tournament, they were, of course, not usable. Their existence caused much excitement among the viewers, while the commentators remained silent about it.
When will the Respawn Vans come? Since the vans seem to be finished, they should officially be coming to the game soon. Epic could possibly bring them in the upcoming update or wants to test them in another pop-up tournament first. Because these events are traditionally intended for such tests.
How exactly the vans work is still unclear, but it is likely to be quite similar to Apex Legends.
