Why did NoWay have to pay so much in taxes? In a new video on his YouTube channel, the Twitch streamer and LoL player received a letter from the tax office. He told the chat that he was afraid of the tax office.
NoWay explained himself and talked about his high tax payments in 2025. According to him, 85% of his income would have been used for this payment. NoWay mentions in his video the “three-year trap” which can become a downfall for many self-employed individuals. He explains the term using his own example.
The YouTuber explained that his income had skyrocketed three years ago. When he submitted the tax return for that year, he faced extremely high back payments and an adjustment of the advance payment. Additionally, he was supposed to pay a general tax payment and a trade tax payment.
At the end, there was a huge back payment reported NoWay. For him, that amounted to 800,000 euros in one month.

What is the cheat code? According to NoWay, moving to Madeira, an island in Portugal, is the cheat code to save on taxes. There, there are no income taxes for influencers, allowing them to almost double their income, says NoWay.
For him, it would no longer be worth it, because Portugal has abolished the tax advantage for immigrants. The so-called NHR system (Non-Habitual Resident), which many streamers used, no longer exists since 2024.
In the past, many influencers and content creators emigrated to Madeira to enjoy the beautiful nature or to save on high taxes.
Would NoWay emigrate to Madeira? No, for NoWay personally there is no reason to move to the island other than tax evasion or, as he calls it, tax optimization. According to him, he has the luxury of being able to afford to pay so many taxes. However, he already said in a stream in 2023 that it would be foolish not to move to Madeira, as the careers of content creators can be very short.
Are there other reasons? Yes, he was born and raised in Germany and has benefited from the infrastructure. Furthermore, he has many viewers from Germany, and for them, taxes are indirectly something he can give back to his fans.
