The new chapter of Dead by Daylight is the perfect entry point. Newcomers have it particularly easy – returnees too. There are many reasons for this.
Dead by Daylight clearly belongs to the games in which you first need to gain some dozens of hours of experience to really become good and understand all the nuances. It is especially tough when the players, both allies and opponents, are already seasoned professionals. So the right moment to get started is rare – but right now is the time.

The fact that starting in Dead by Daylight is particularly easy at the moment has several reasons, as a series of events are currently taking place simultaneously.
Resident Evil has a lot of pull: The first reason is the release of the new chapter, the “Resident Evil” DLC. The game series is extremely popular worldwide, and many fans of Resident Evil are now checking out Dead by Daylight. This, in turn, means that there are numerous new players who are just starting with the game and are thus at a similar skill level.
Dead by Daylight is most fun when all players are roughly equal, leading to exciting matches. Other newcomers create a perfect learning environment. Even better is if you play with friends and learn the basics together.
To give a figure: Right after the release of the new chapter, Dead by Daylight reached its highest number of concurrent players – a whopping 94,720 players were playing at the same time (via steamcharts). This is on Steam alone. Since the game is also playable on all major consoles and offers crossplay, there is currently no shortage of allies and opponents. However, there are no such precise user statistics for consoles as there are for Steam.
Blood points for free: A major point of criticism is that you have to grind quite a lot in Dead by Daylight to unlock all useful perks. That is true, as each new character requires more and more blood points to unlock the perks for every other character. However, currently, you can start with a pretty nice bonus. Anyone who logs into Dead by Daylight by June 22 will simply receive 300,000 blood points.
The points can be invested in perks, items, and equipment. This allows you to quickly unlock at least a solid starting amount of upgrades.
The blood points are currently offered as compensation because the new Resident Evil map was temporarily disabled to fix a bug. Even if you didn’t notice it, you can still just “pick up” the 300,000 blood points “on the side”.
New Killer Nemesis is perfect for beginners
Many killers in Dead by Daylight are relatively complicated to play. Learning the Nurse is quite a chore. However, the new killer “Nemesis” is very beginner-friendly. He comes with many positive traits and has only a few weaknesses:
- He has a solid speed
- Nemesis has a small ranged attack
- He makes survivors more noticeable with an infection
- He has two zombies that support him
Nemesis follows the principle of “easy to learn, hard to master” and has a relatively flat learning curve – rare for Dead by Daylight. Even newcomers can quickly achieve success with this killer, while professionals can nibble on the nuances to operate him as efficiently as possible.

Dead by Daylight at a bargain price
A deterrent factor is the many costly DLCs for Dead by Daylight. After all, a new chapter with a new killer and survivors is released roughly every three months. Buying them all can get quite expensive. The developers have also noticed that this is off-putting, and they now offer several new bundles tailored to different players. Prices vary depending on the platform. The following information currently applies to Steam and is valid until July 12:

- Survivor Expansion Pack: €29.99
- includes 11 additional non-licensed survivors
- Killer Expansion Pack: €29.99
- includes 11 additional non-licensed killers
Additionally, the price of nearly all DLCs is reduced by a whopping 40%, so most DLCs cost less than 5 euros. So if you want a specific killer or survivor, now is a good time to start.
However, the base game is completely sufficient for starting. A large part of the characters can also be earned later with in-game currency.
What’s next? In about two weeks, starting from July 1st, Dead by Daylight will celebrate its 5th anniversary with a special event for two weeks. Although not all details are known yet, it will probably involve a big bonus on the earned blood points. This is a good opportunity for all players – whether newcomer or veteran – to unlock new perks, items, and addons. So it is worthwhile to learn the basics of the game by then to maximize the benefit from the event.
