In the seemingly endless galaxy of No Man’s Sky, your survival is not guaranteed. We look at the dangers that await you and how you can survive them.
The space simulation No Man’s Sky is an ambitious project by Hello Games. You explore a virtually limitless galaxy where you can discover over 18 trillion planets with unique flora and fauna – if you happen to have five billion years of time. Because it is estimated that it would take that long for the procedurally generated galaxy to be explored.
However, “out there” not only yawning solitude and a few pretty plants await you to casually admire; there are also deadly dangers that are more diverse than just pure gun violence. No Man’s Sky is supposed to put your survival instinct to a hard test. At IGN, the developers have now presented some of the survival elements. We summarize the information.
Those who want to survive in No Man’s Sky need resources
No one has ever survived on air and love alone, so in this space simulation, it’s advisable to hoard everything you can find. But where do you find things in No Man’s Sky that can be useful for survival? Exactly, on the approximately 18,000,000,000,000,000.000 different planets.
You need to collect valuable resources to craft items, maintain your equipment, or to be able to work on your spaceship. There is supposed to be a comprehensive crafting system for which you need many materials that can be found throughout the galaxy.
The resources are not only oriented to elements of our periodic table, there are also fictional elements in No Man’s Sky. What you can do with them remains to be seen. One thing is certain: without resources, you will quickly bite the dust…or whatever type of vegetation cover the planet you are on has.
There are laws even in the vastness of space
If you carefully gather your resources on deserted planets in No Man’s Sky, everything is fine, it seems to be appreciated in space. However, if you act more roughly and exploit resources in factories, quarries, or areas of other creatures (yes, there are also various aliens), your wanted level rises, and you will have to deal with the “space police”.
If you cause trouble, you will soon be visited by the Sentinels who want to put you in your place. The higher your wanted level, the more persistent the pursuers will become. So behave on planets that are already populated, otherwise, an overwhelming force of “Sentinels” could severely endanger your survival.
Fortunately, you can craft weapons with the collected resources to defend yourself. You will also encounter further creatures and possibly cultures that do not always mean well for you. Stay alert!
There is no bad weather, only bad clothing
In No Man’s Sky, every planet is uniquely created. This means not only that many different cute creatures hop around the planets but also that the climate conditions will take a toll on you. The temperatures can be extremely hot or terribly cold – a beanie alone won’t suffice.
The temperature fluctuations are likely to be one of the biggest challenges in the space simulation. To face this “enemy”, you have a stylish spacesuit on your body. You need to maintain it with resources, so you don’t run into the clutches of certain heat or cold death.
In extremely cold temperatures, it is said to help, for example, to dig into the ground because the closer you get to the core, the warmer it gets. You can flee into a cave to escape the heat.
If you expose yourself to extreme climatic conditions for too long, the spacesuit will fall apart. If you want to survive, you should quickly repair it or seek out another planet – for example, one with a pleasant 25 degrees!
