Nintendo Switch 2: Release, Price and Pre-Order
When is the release of the Switch 2? The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025. Nintendo announced this during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025.
What will the Switch 2 cost? The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost 469.99 Euros. At launch, the console will also be available in a bundle with Mario Kart World, which is expected to cost 509.00 Euros.
From when can the Switch 2 be pre-ordered? The Switch 2 is already available from, among others, Media Markt, Saturn and on invitation via Amazon possible.
Pre-orders via the Nintendo Online Shop will start on April 8, 2025. However, these can initially only be made by members of Nintendo Switch Online who have received a corresponding invitation.
These are the requirements:
- You must have been an online member for at least 2 years by March 31, 2025.
- On the day of the pre-order, the membership must be active.
- Only the holder of the membership, not family members, is allowed to pre-order.

Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Cons, Hardware and Specs
What can the new Joy-Cons do? The new Joy-Cons are magnetically connected to the console. In the Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, it was also announced that they should have a new C-button.
This activates a built-in voice chat, through which the screen can also be shared with teammates. The feature is expected to become a paid service from March 31, 2026, and can only be used with a Nintendo Online membership.
In addition, the controllers can also be used like a computer mouse, as speculated beforehand. A flat surface is required for this. The sticks will be used to simulate the left and right clicks of a real mouse.

How much power does the Switch 2 have? So far, Nintendo has not released any official benchmarks or information about the hardware used. Current leaks suggest that the performance of the Switch 2 will be between the Steam Deck and the PS4 Pro.

Is the Switch 2 better than the Steam Deck? According to rumors, the Switch should offer more power than the Steam Deck: The Steam Deck offers a performance of 1.6 TFLOPS, but the Switch 2 should deliver 1.72 TFLOPS in handheld mode and even 3.09 TFLOPS in docking mode. However, these are all just rumors that Nintendo has not confirmed yet.

Is the Switch 2 better than the PS5? No, most likely not when it comes to pure performance. The PS5 offers significantly more power:
- The Switch 2 is supposed to deliver 1.72 TFLOPS in handheld mode and even 3.09 TFLOPS in dock mode.
- The standard PS5 has a performance of 10.28 TFLOPS.
- The PS5 Pro, which was released at the end of 2024, has 16.7 TFLOPS.
However, when it comes to other aspects such as flexibility or child-friendliness, the Switch 2 is likely to perform better than the PS5: Because the Switch 2 still offers a handheld mode and Nintendo has a much more extensive program for children.
