Nintendo invites 10,000 players to a playtest who have a membership with Nintendo Switch Online. According to the publisher and developer, this is supposed to be a new feature of NSO for which exclusive software must be downloaded. Early leaks suggest it could be an MMO.
What kind of software is this supposed to be? On now-deleted screenshots, a description of the game was visible. The goal of the game is to collaborate with others and develop a planet. Creativity and the use of resources are supposed to be utilized.
Players are expected to discover “new lands, enemies, and resources” throughout the MMO. To utilize the resources, zones must be established through “beacons”. These zones are tied to the individual player who created them.
Within the area, the player can place, move, or even edit items. In another player’s “beacon” zone, testers can do nothing.
MeinMMO has compiled 7 curious facts about Nintendo for you:
New Nintendo game is said to have many MMO elements
What makes the title an MMO? Players are supposed to be able to meet in a social hub, the so-called “Dev Core”. Here, players can level up, receive items, and interact with others. Nintendo also mentions features for content created by players. This content can be shared with others when players pass an in-game test aimed at respectful communication.
The manner in which communication will take place is unknown. It could be that players can only communicate through emojis. A chat or voice function is also conceivable.
The game resembles other MMOs like Minecraft and Roblox, where players can either shape their own world as they wish or share self-created content with others.
According to a user on Reddit, there are supposed to be additional features:
- Mini-games
- Mechs, including vehicles and tools
- A character editor where hair and skin color can be changed
- PvP elements
Kotaku reports that an image of the description is supposed to be included, showing a large sphere covered with an extensive grid. Some of the squares are said to be colored blue in varying proportions. Presumably, these are the individual areas of the planet that have been developed in different proportions.
Can I still participate? Unfortunately, Nintendo has closed the registration. Since Tuesday, October 15, 2024, no applications are being accepted. The playtest is scheduled to run from October 24 at 03:00 to November 6 at 01:59.
The game is 2.2 GB in size and goes by the codename Rockstock. It will probably take some time before the game is released or revealed.
Right now, Nintendo will have its hands full. Besides the usual hustle and bustle, the company has now sued the team behind the Steam hit Palworld. This does not sit well with its own fans: Nintendo confronts the Steam hit Palworld and even angers its own fans
