Streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins was the first to break the 10 million follower mark on Twitch. He is one of the big winners of the huge hype surrounding Fortnite.
Who is Ninja? Tyler Blevins is 27 years old. He was already a professional player at the age of 18, back then for Halo 3. He started streaming in 2011, at a time when Twitch was still called “Justin TV”.
Ninja witnessed the rise of the “Battle Royale” genre, which is considered particularly favorable for streamers and viewers because there is always something happening:
- Ninja started with H1Z1 when it went into early access in early 2015
- Then moved to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds when it launched in March 2017 and won the match at Gamescom
- until he found Fortnite, and with it, wealth and popularity
Success Came with Fortnite
The Hype: Fortnite launched its “Battle Royale” mode in September 2017. Initially mockingly regarded as a blatant PUBG copy and an “emergency” action after the original Fortnite failed. However, Fortnite: Battle Royale became a hit.
By January 2018 at the latest, Fortnite had developed into a global phenomenon – and Ninja played a crucial role in this.
- In March 2018, he streamed with the rapper Drake – here he broke the record for the most viewers for a stream.

- In April 2018, there was even a live show in Vegas for Fortnite with Ninja as the main attraction.
- Now rumors say that Epic and Samsung planned to make Ninja a promotional figure in August 2018, when they bring Fortnite to Android phones, to promote the launch of a special gaming smartphone

Large Gap to Number 2
10 million followers: Last night, Ninja became the first person to break the 10 million mark on Twitch. He is far ahead of the competition.
In comparison, Shroud has 3.91 million followers, Fortnite colleague TSM-Myth has 3.88 million, Twitch veteran summit1g has 3.25 million, and Riot Games, the creators of LoL, have 2.992 million.
Twitch Prime Subs the Big Money Maker
Twitch has made Ninja rich: Ninja has been set for months. Epic has already closed two “deals” with Twitch. Through these deals, Fortnite players receive an exclusive skin pack when they use a Twitch Prime subscription. Every month, users can distribute one free Twitch Prime subscription to a streamer.
These Twitch Prime subscriptions provide each “Subscriber” with a monthly contribution of about $2.50. It adds up. It is assumed that tens of thousands of subscriptions ended up with Ninja through this method, making him a millionaire.
Currently, there are rumors that Fortnite and Twitch are planning a 3rd pack for Twitch Prime.
