The MMO New World is currently in alpha and is set to move into beta in April. However, players are currently waiting in vain for the date. This makes some of the early ones nervous.
Update April 9: It has now been confirmed that the release of New World is postponed. Accordingly, the beta will also be delayed. It is now expected to start in July.
What is the situation? New World announced in December 2019 that they would change their game concept and remove the PvP requirement. At the same time, they announced the start of the beta for April and the release for May 26.
Since then, there have been regular updates about the game, such as the nasty PvE events or insights into the combat system, but it is only playable for selected alpha testers. And they have an NDA.
Now we are in April and players are eagerly awaiting the start of the beta. After all, they want to know how the new content works.

Delayed beta means delayed release?
What about the beta? Currently, Amazon is tight-lipped about the beta. There have been repeated inquiries on Twitter, one of which was answered on March 30.
It stated that there is currently nothing to report. As soon as a date is set, it will be announced:
We have already contacted the PR department of New World and will report as soon as we receive accurate information.
What does this mean for the release? New World is supposed to be released on May 26. However, the date seemed too close and unlikely for many even at the announcement because a lot has changed in the concept. Many PvE elements also didn’t sound refined even months later.
Now, in times of the Coronavirus, where most studios are working from home, delays are becoming more common, as seen recently with The Last of Us – Part II.
A delay of the beta is now seen by many as the first hint that the release of New World could also be postponed. Others even speculate that Amazon has already given up on New World in favor of the new “Lord of the Rings” MMO.
What speaks against a delay? In the official announcement, it was reported that the beta starts in April. There was no hint that it would happen right in the first week of April. Reddit user Capt_Calamity also brings this to mind:
Everyone should take a deep breath and relax. They will reveal it when they are ready. Complaining now that the beta didn’t start on April 1 doesn’t change the situation at all.
First players stream the alpha with watermarks
Meanwhile, the first players have set aside the NDA on Twitch. They streamed the alpha of New World, as users reported on Twitter. Whether the users intentionally violated it or thought that the agreement would end on April 1 is unknown.
Amazon, on the other hand, has announced the release of another game last week. Their shooter Crucible is also set to be released in May.
