New World: Big Patch 1.3 comes today, brings important changes for the endgame – Patch Notes

Today, on January 25th, the new Patch 1.3 is released in New World. It brings among other things the dungeon mutators, a new equipment level, and some general adjustments. The patch comes along with server maintenance. We from MeinMMO will tell you everything about the downtime and the patch notes.

Here are the highlights of Patch 1.3: The big January patch brings as a main highlight the dungeon mutators. These are 10 new difficulty levels for the three endgame expeditions Shipyard of the Dynasty, Lazarus Instrumentality, and Garden of Origins.

About these mutators, and also about the crafting and the Gypsum system, you can earn shadow shards. With them, you can improve your equipment from an armor value of 600 to a value of 625. Additionally, there are new perks for equipment suitable for the mutators.

Other highlights include:

  • Better drop rates from named enemies in dungeons
  • Reduction of Azoth costs when traveling
  • Leveling between levels 23 and 45 will be adjusted and sped up
  • Balance changes in the Outpost Rush
  • Several balance changes to weapons and AI in the game
  • The base tax in the game will be revised again

When does Patch 1.3 come out? The big update will be brought to the live servers today at 1:00 PM. This update is also accompanied by maintenance work.

The server downtime is expected to last 3 hours. From 4:00 PM you should be able to get back into the game. If there are any extensions, we will keep you updated here.

Until 1:00 PM, you can also use the time to improve your equipment at the trading post, as this will be subject to restrictions afterwards:

New World Patch 1.3 – Patch Notes

Below we have collected the complete patch notes for you. You can also find them on the official website of New World.

Mutated Expeditions

  • Players need a codex to open a mutated version of an expedition. Upon completing an expedition on normal difficulty, players receive the codex for that expedition and a sound orb of the mutated expedition as a one-time reward.
  • Note:
    • Players invited to a group that already has the codex and orb will receive both items upon completion.
    • When re-running expeditions on normal difficulty, there will be no sound orb of the mutated expedition as a reward.
  • When players call up the expedition menu and interact with it, they will see the type of available mutator, the mutation level, the recommended equipment level, and finally, whether they meet the requirements to participate.
  • Mutator orbs are universal. Players can craft 1 per week and can buy additional orbs in the faction shop.
  • Scoring and ranking
  • The score is performance-based and is derived from a combination of categories. The score is also a shared value for group members.
    • The following categories count towards the group’s total score:
    • Time: The better the time, the higher the score. Calculated at the end of a run.
      • AI kills: A target value for killing a predefined number of enemies within the expedition.
      • AI Kills: A target value for killing “named enemies” within the expedition.
      • Team wipes: Each team wipe during a boss fight significantly reduces the score.
      • Respawns: Each respawn reduces the score moderately.
    • There are also bonus multipliers for run efficiency, minimal respawning/wiping, speed, and eliminating all targets. These are calculated at the end of the expedition run. There are score ranks of bronze, silver, and gold.
    • To level up in the individual mutator difficulty levels, you must achieve a certain performance level within the highest level. Higher scores mean ascending to higher difficulty levels, which in turn lead to greater rewards.
  • Mutation effects
  • Elemental
    • Elemental mutations grant enemies in the expedition a specific type of elemental damage, increase their resistance to that damage type, convert a large portion of their damage into this type, and grant them powerful elemental-based skills.
      • Hellfire: Soaks enemies with fire, allowing them to burn players blocking their path.
      • Eternal: Grants enemies the power of evil and gives them skills that weaken players or strengthen their allies imbued with evil.
    • Upgrades
    • Upgrade mutations grant creatures in the expedition powerful new skills.
      • Wild: Wild AI enemies reduce healing and shoot harmful beams around them.
      • Unconquerable: Unconquerable creatures withstand damage with life-draining skills and can summon a phalanx that blocks all projectiles aimed at them from players.
    • Curses
    • Curse mutations inflict players with dangerous effects and force them to cooperate to break the power of the curse. At higher difficulty levels, curses are intensified and present players with additional tactical challenges.
      • Withered: Withered players occasionally ignite in flames due to elemental energy. When the curse is intensified, players must cleanse themselves by approaching the burning player.
      • Censored: Censored players must find that their skills are turned against them. After players in the group have activated a certain number of skills, explosive silence zones appear around all players. When the curse is intensified, players lose natural mana regeneration and must enter the silence zone to regenerate their mana.

Endgame Innovations Part 2 & Shadow Shards

Shadow Shard Equipment System

  • Players can spend shadow shards to increase the armor value of individual equipment pieces from 590 to 625. We have reduced the requirement for this from RW 600 to 590, based on feedback from the public test area and because legendary items should be required to use the shadow system.
  • Players can obtain shadow shards in three ways:
  • Expedition mutators are the most efficient way to earn shards. The higher the difficulty and the achieved score rank, the more shards players earn.
    • By opening gypsum casts once players have reached a competence of at least 600 in this type.
    • By crafting items with RW 600 once players have reached a competence of at least 600 in this type.
  • When an item is upgraded with shadow shards, it becomes bound to the player.

Skill Innovations

  • Players can increase their competence with current means (gypsum casts and random boosts in the open world) from 590 to 600.
  • With the shadow system, competence can be increased from 600 to 625.
  • Equipment scaling based on competence.
  • For items purchased at the trading post or obtained via P2P after the January patch that have armor values higher than the player’s competence, the effective armor value will be downscaled to the average of player competence and the item’s armor value.

General and Quality of Life Improvements

  • If players craft an item with RW 600 and their competence for that item type is less than 600, a competence boost is triggered. This is another good way for all crafters to increase their competence to 600 (in addition to the emerald gypsum from skill reward containers).
  • If you receive a competence boost from a random drop in the open world, the loot ticker will now indicate which item granted you the boost.
  • If you receive an expedition boost by opening a reward stock, you will see in the opening sequence which item granted you the boost.
  • The attunement potion: Topaz gypsum can now be crafted at every arcana station and in every R5 campsite.
  • The chance to receive Topaz gypsum when killing enemies while attuned has been increased.
  • We fixed an issue where gypsum casts only offered +1 bonus when opened over armor value 585 for an item. Gypsum casts should now provide at least +2 improvement between competencies 585 and 600, except at 599.
  • To allow players to use the received gypsum more freely, we removed the crafting cooldowns on gypsum balls.

Game World

Changes to Expeditions

  • With the release of expedition mutators, we made some balance changes and updates to existing content.
  • We made expeditions more attractive by updating rewards and drop rates and aligning them with other endgame activities:
  • The drop rates for “named enemies” in expeditions have been significantly increased.
    • R5 equipment has been added to the loot tables of the Shipyard of the Dynasty when you play in the mutated expedition.
  • We adjusted the number of certain enemies:
  • Lazarus Instrumentality: The number of enemies when sealing the Azoth portals of the Ancients in the Ostium has been reduced.
  • Expedition sound orbs
  • Expedition sound orbs for Amrhein excavation, starlight burial mounds, depths, and shipyard of the dynasty can be purchased daily in the faction shop. Expedition sound orbs for Garden of Origins and Lazarus Instrumentality can be purchased weekly.
    • To make crafting expedition sound orbs more accessible, the following previously player-bound materials can now be traded:
    • Rot seeds
      • Corrupted magnetite stones, crystals, fragments, shards, and pieces
      • Chisels
    • We significantly reduced the crafting costs for expedition keys.Global changes to key crafting:
    • Chisel costs (starmetal) reduced from 200 to 150 coins.
      • Chisel costs (orichalcum) reduced from 400 to 200 coins.
      • Asmodeum chisels reduced from 500 to 250 coins.
      • Everlasting heart: All elemental particle costs reduced. Crafting now costs 10 instead of 30 of each particle.
      • Elemental heart: All elemental particle costs reduced. Crafting now costs 10 instead of 30 of each particle.
      • Immortal heart: All elemental essence costs reduced. Crafting now costs 2 instead of 6 of each essence.
      • Dynasty sound orb: Number of required corrupted crystals reduced. Crafting now costs 1 instead of 2 of them.
      • Dynasty sound orb: Number of required evil stones (obsidian) reduced. Crafting now costs 8 instead of 10 of them.
      • Lazarus sound orb: Number of required corrupted magnetite stones reduced. Crafting now costs 1 instead of 3 of them.
      • Origins sound orb: Number of required corrupted magnetite stones reduced. Crafting now costs 1 instead of 2 of them.
    • Changes to mutated sound orbs from the public test area:
    • Number of required runestones reduced. Crafting now costs 5 instead of 10 of them.
      • Number of required powerful raw gemstone dust reduced. Crafting now costs 5 instead of 10 of them.
      • Now only 1 instead of 2 chisels is needed.

Fast Travel Costs

  • We have noted your frustration with the costs of fast travel, and this version includes an update that dramatically reduces the distance factor for the amount of Azoth required for each travel. Accordingly, the faction control point bonus associated with fast travel now reduces the distance factor to zero.
  • There are new fast travel shrines!
  • Exposed shrine has been added to the Amrhein excavation.
    • Starlight shrine has been added at the northeastern wall by the destroyed obelisk.
    • Grief province shrine has been added directly before the entrance to the depths.
    • Origins shrine has been added before the entrance to the garden of origins.
    • Melpomene’s shrine has been added under the siren amphitheater.
    • Lazarus shrine has been added next to the entrance to the Lazarus Instrumentality.

Economy, Progress & Loot

Base Tax

As compensation for players affected by issues with server time last year, we have reduced the base tax for all players by 90%, based on the tax rate set by the companies controlling the areas. We have also communicated with this change that we would revert these taxes in a future update. While the tax relief was active, we identified an imbalance in wealth distribution to the detriment of homeowners, and we decided to tighten the base tax rates. We will continue to closely monitor player reactions and the data surrounding this aspect. We are adjusting the taxes to make them fairer for homeowners and companies. We will continue to evaluate and observe the overall wealth distribution and the effects of the territory tax system. In this patch, we have:

  • Reversed the 90% reduction of the base tax.
  • Reduced the minimum base tax rate from 5% to 2.5%.
  • Reduced the maximum base tax rate from 20% to 10%.
  • Reduced the standard base tax from 10% to 5%.

Skill Rewards

With the introduction of skill endowment, we have introduced an imbalance in the acquisition of Azoth vials, which became excessive. The surplus of these items for some players has diminished the value of Azoth vials as a reward overall. Since these can be traded, we want to ensure that Azoth vials remain rare and special. We will continue to monitor player reactions and the data on this and make further changes if necessary.

  • Azoth vials have been removed from R1 collection skill chests.
  • R2 collection skill chests now contain 1 to 2 Azoth vials instead of 2 to 3.
  • R3 collection skill chests now contain 1 to 3 Azoth vials instead of 3 to 5.
  • R1 crafting and refining skill chests now contain 0 to 1 Azoth vials instead of 2 to 3.
  • R2 crafting and refining skill chests now contain 1 to 2 Azoth vials instead of 2 to 3.
  • R3 crafting and refining skill chests now contain 2 to 3 Azoth vials instead of 3 to 5.

Rewards

  • Fixed an issue where players below level 60 could earn gypsum in darkness events. Players must now be level 60 to earn gypsum in these events.
  • The Surgeon, Gravekeeper Daehi, Baines, and Mordici the Gravedigger previously did not drop combat trophy materials. That has been fixed!

Crafting

  • Fixed an issue where timeless shards were not consumed during crafting.
  • Fixed an issue where the Creator’s Mark axe was incorrectly displayed as “legendary” with an additional effect in the crafting menu.
  • The graphics for “Energy Providing Small Ration” and “Energy Providing Travel Ration” have been revised to better match the ingredients needed for crafting.
  • The recipe for “Blackened Mandje Mandje with Corn Succotash,” which actually requires a lava barbe, has been corrected. The title now names the correct fish.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from crafting arcana items with RW 600 using winter patterns.
  • Fixed an issue where no onyx could be used when crafting rings with timeless shards.

Equipment and Loot

  • To stimulate the economy after the holidays, we have introduced the limited-time rare drop “Bag of Juniper Berries” into the game, which gives players coins and juniper berries. It can yield coins between 50 and 150 each time and is only found 3 times a day.
  • Fixed an issue where the Putrid Gators were dropping excessive raw leather.
  • Fixed an issue where certain named items with an armor value of 600 were increasing competence.
  • Fixed an issue where the Lazarus Bow had a lower dexterity value than other bows of its rank and armor value. The bow now has an appropriate dexterity value.
  • Fixed an issue where the earring “Petal” could not be repaired.
  • Fixed an issue where Egwene’s cloak was stretched during certain animations.
  • Fixed an issue where the Mutator Ring in the Shipyard of the Dynasty displayed an incorrect name and description. The name and description are now displayed correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where players could not place gems into mutator accessories.
  • Fixed an issue where players could not place gems into Old Ring, Old Earring, and Old Amulet.

Progress

  • The leveling up in the midgame (levels 23 to 45) has been accelerated by 20%. We found that leveling in the midgame took a bit too long and did not match the pacing of the content.

Expedition Sound Orbs

  • Materials used for crafting expedition keys: chisels, corrupted fragments, shards, crystals, and magnetite stones can now be traded.
  • Expedition mutator sound orbs can now be crafted once a week and can also be purchased in the faction shop.
  • To align with expedition mutator sound orbs, normal sound orbs for Shipyard of the Dynasty, Garden of Origins, and Lazarus Instrumentality have also been added to the faction shops and can also be purchased there once a week.

We reduced the durability damage of items in the inventory upon death: Now only bound items lose durability upon death.

  • Fixed an issue where players lost progress when switching back to a faction they had previously belonged to. Players will now retain their faction rank reputation and their faction token balance when switching back to a faction. Unfortunately, we cannot restore the lost progress of players who switched back to a faction before this update.

UX/UI & Social

  • There is now a narrative assist for the beginning of the game.
  • This system helps visually impaired players enter the world of Aeternum with a spoken guide for character creation and navigation to the starting beach.
  • It is no longer possible to give gold to others outside of the P2P trading system.
  • New tooltip on the loading screen explains how the “strong against/weak against” mechanic works.
  • Players must now play the game for at least 2 hours and own it for at least 72 hours before they can use the chat. This should help get rid of more troublesome gold sellers.

In-Game Shop

  • Decoration packages now show the number of furniture items included.
  • Items in the shop can now simultaneously show that they are on sale and that they are only available for a limited time.
  • Currency symbols are now displayed correctly in all regions.

Trading Post

  • Fixed an issue where the “Sort by Time” function in the trading post did not work correctly.
  • Inventory should no longer scroll back up in the trading post after closing the sale window (regardless of whether you sold something or canceled).

Important Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where group chat could be interrupted after leaving a house.
  • Fixed an issue where companies owning multiple territories were not receiving compensation for merging. Companies now receive compensation based on the number of their territories (instead of a fixed amount).
  • Fixed an issue where the reward screen in Outpost Rush only displayed one reward even when there were multiple.
  • Fixed an issue where the icons for breaches of corruption occasionally did not show up on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where the territory reputation improvement UI remained on screen when players began a trade while it was being displayed.
  • Fixed an issue where items occasionally did not display as repaired after players repaired everything.
  • Fixed an issue where trading from a split stack occasionally traded the wrong items.
  • The evil gauntlet icons now match the colors of the gauntlet models.
  • A number of user interface issues with overlapping text have been fixed.
  • Fixed a bug with sorting by time in the trading post.
  • Fixed an issue where some timeless shard icons displayed the wrong weight.
  • Fixed an issue where the boss music was heard just outside the arena: Eternal Pools.
  • Fixed an issue where sounds were not always played in Navarro’s kitchen.
  • Mission tooltips are now docked to the side of the tiles so that details about the missions are more readable.
  • There is now a sound when players capture points in Outpost Rush.
  • Fixed an issue where players were not always able to hear Snap, the wolf, when they accepted the “Snap’s Blessing” quest.
  • Fixed a server crash that was likely triggered by territories abandoned by their governors.
  • Fixed a discrepancy in server, client, and system time on the war declaration screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the map incorrectly displayed an upcoming invasion when a war was imminent.
