New World Aeternum is here and lets you experience the MMORPG from Amazon Games for the first time on consoles. Many players have expressed positive feedback following the launch day. However, there is also criticism.
How did the launch of New World Aeternum go? Basically quite smoothly, although the official list of known issues is long. Most players were able to log into the MMORPG and explore Aeternum, which was also due to Amazon Games gradually increasing the number of servers to currently 15.
In the game itself, the revamped version of New World received a lot of praise. It was repeatedly mentioned in the chat that the Aeternum version is much better than Throne and Liberty or WoW. However, there was also some criticism of the innovations, with a few players wishing for the original version of the online role-playing game to return.

Much praise, but not all new features are well received
How does the community rate the new New World? Since the launch, a number of threads have gone live on Reddit in which players note: Hey, the Aeternum version has really turned out well!
- RyanandRoxy praises on Reddit the graphic style: “Whoever said the new graphics are bad … it’s okay to be wrong. They are stylish. Reminds me a lot of how Kingdoms of Amalur could have been if it had received a newer sequel.”
- Prof_Gankenstein adds via Reddit: “The graphics are great, but the sound in this game is more than amazing. Hearing the echo of the crack when hitting an ore, or the sound of a tree falling in the distance, is astonishingly lifelike.”
- shaniq_ wishes on Reddit: “Amazon Games … please. Don’t let it die again. Use your last chance. The game is finally in such a good state. I’m blown away. But I see it as an action RPG, not as an MMO. I’m happy with that.”
- Invictus_Lex opens a very long post on Reddit with these words: “I have to ask, what’s with all the hate for this game? I just started playing it on Xbox this morning, and already the combat, the grind, the quests, the scenery from moment to moment, the sound effects etc. are absolutely fantastic.”
- Sweetznezz has already spent 923 hours in New World and celebrates on Steam: “Although the community constantly undervalues this game, it is a truly impressive and fun MMORPG experience. I have been playing since the original beta, and while there have certainly been some growing pains, the developers have put a lot of love into this game, and the new Aeternum revamp is just incredible.”
However, the truth is that New World has only achieved an “Mixed” rating on average in the 1,301 recent reviews (many from October 15, 2024). What is rotten in the land of Aeternum?
- Watafaka is appalled by Aeternum after 910 hours with New World (via Steam): “I have been playing this game since day 1, over and over, but with the console launch they decided to update the user interface for consoles, and it is terrible for PC players. It is set to 16:9, everything is oversized and pushed to the center of the screen, with no way to adjust it. Did they really forget that we PC players were here first, or did they just ignore us?”
- RaveLordNito complains on Steam: “Players who bought the base game but do not have Rise of the Angry Earth must purchase the expansion to access all content from New World Aeternum. A really bad decision, I won’t pay for a half-finished DLC with barely any content to play a major update.”
- Not everyone is convinced by the graphics, as Finesso Pancito proves on Steam: “They have made the game look worse to accommodate crossplay with console players. Other than the name, there are no significant changes with this update.”
Especially the criticisms from the PC community regarding the UI adjustments and forced 16:9 aspect ratio, but also the mandatory add-on requirement, keep coming up.
