On December 17, 2025, the 2nd season of the Amazon-series Fallout will start. The characters will visit the city of New Vegas, which is part of the eponymous game by Obsidian Entertainment. The original writer of the title is looking forward to the new season. At the same time, he addresses a general issue.
What makes New Vegas so special? Since the end of the first season of Fallout , fans have been looking forward to the continuation. Because in the last scene – beware, minor spoiler – a central character heads towards the desert city of New Vegas.
This city appears in the eponymous game and is, as the name suggests, the Fallout version of the real gambling metropolis Las Vegas. It was built from its ruins, and there one indulges in the beautiful things of post-apocalyptic life among still destroyed buildings.
The game Fallout New Vegas enjoys high esteem among fans and usually only has to compete with its predecessor Fallout 3 for the title of the best game in the series. Leading the creation of New Vegas and its characters was John Gonzalez. He was the principal writer and has been following the Amazon series with great interest.
Regarding the upcoming 2nd season, however, he has mixed feelings.
A problem that comics also have
What does Gonzalez say? In an interview with PC Gamer, the author talks about how much he liked season 1 – quite a bit, in fact. He continues:
I really admired the complexity of how they explored the world. I mean, I found the character of Maximus fascinating, a fascinating perspective to introduce someone to the Steel Brotherhood. I’m curious to see what happens next.

And now the characters around protagonist Lucy are likely to find themselves back in New Vegas soon. Characters like Mr. House, who come from the game, will also appear, as the trailers have already revealed.
John Gonzalez knows that he can expect neither praise nor any other form of recognition for this. According to him, this is nothing new:
It’s very strange to see characters that I created appear in other media. Moreover, there’s no recognition and no royalties for that. I understood that early in my career. In a way, creating narratives in video games, in my opinion, resembles working on comics.

Even with well-known comic creations, like superheroes, very few know who created them. As a positive example, Gonzalez names Spider-Man, whose artist Steve Ditko is at least still known to some. The author of the web-slinger is even more famous: Stan Lee.
Such inventions simply do not belong to one, according to the Fallout author. And he is right: Over time, other creatives take popular ideas and weave them further, letting something new emerge from them.
At the same time, Gonzalez points out that he himself has built upon the work of others. He honors Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the original creators of the Fallout world, and calls their work “genius”.
How exactly New Vegas and the city’s inhabitants are portrayed in the new season will be revealed to fans starting December 17, when the first episode of the 2nd season airs. Further episodes will then follow weekly. Are you already looking forward to it? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments. Parts of the development team at Obsidian recently had a great experience: The 2nd season of Fallout revives an iconic location from New Vegas, allowing the developers of the past to touch their fictional work
