With the new update for PS5, Sony allows you to operate your PlayStation 5 with two controllers simultaneously.
With the upcoming update 8.0 for PS5, Sony brings some special new features. The known features include:
- 3D audio for “Dolby Atmos” compatible audio devices
- Support for M.2 SSDs with larger storage capacity
- Mute the PS5 beep
- New search function for games in your library/collection
More accessibility and fun in co-op
Which new feature stands out particularly? Thanks to the update, you have the option to assign a second DualSense as an so-called assist controller to a logged-in user account, thus using two controllers simultaneously. The PS5 processes the inputs from both controllers in parallel, as if only one controller was being used.
This brings many new possibilities for playing together.
If the controller is too unwieldy, another player can assist in challenging game segments.
Parents now have the option to support their children in difficult in-game situations (and vice versa, of course). Games can be enjoyed much more relaxed this way.
Of course, the feature also opens up entirely new avenues for party co-op.
Update: Size and release date
How large will the download for the update be? Generally, the updates for PS5 range from several hundred megabytes to 3 gigabytes. The last beta patch was 1.1 gigabytes in size.
When will the update be released? The update has been available as a beta for a few weeks now. An official date is not yet known. If Sony adheres to its update routine, the update should be available for everyone at the latest by the end of September.
