The survival game Soulmask was released less than a week ago on Steam. Now the developers are already speaking up and promising that they are working on some important improvements.
- Soulmask is a new survival game that is currently playable in Early Access on Steam and developed by the studio CampFire.
- It is an open-world game, with a core aspect being a mask that grants your character essential survival skills.
- In total, there are 10 different masks and 20 different terrains waiting for you.
- Already after the first week, Soulmask can boast over 38,000 players (via steamcharts.com).
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has already tested the game in the 40-hour demo – but the game is far too large for such little time.
What is the status after the first week? After the first days and 38,000 players, things look strong for Soulmask so far. With over 3,000 reviews, the game currently holds a 79% positive rating.
However, Soulmask is still in its infancy and despite many positive reviews and high numbers, the developers at CampFire Studio say: “We are not good enough yet.” They have now discussed some of the most important improvements they are already working on alongside a few requested updates.
What are the developers working on now? With an open world and plenty of content for hundreds of hours of gameplay, it is not surprising that there are still some issues in Early Access. These have been recognized by the developers and are now set to be addressed.
A major issue they want to address concerns players who die during the game. In such cases, it can happen that your items, which you could normally collect in the world, simply disappear. CampFire also discussed a solution if you are currently affected by this.
You will need to reset all your settings to “Default” in the advanced settings menu. Then, you can set the time it takes before your items effectively self-destruct after your death.
CampFire also commented on other complaints they have received from players. This includes issues such as some tribe members getting stuck, being unable to successfully catch mounts, or materials appearing but not being collectible. The team has noted these issues and is now working on them. For example, they intend to improve the AI of tribe members.
Better filtering and sorting for your backpack
The team is currently also working on improving the filter and sorting in the backpack. “Right now we are testing stability,” is the update on the current status. This is certainly good news for those who have trouble keeping track of their inventory. “Please give us a little more time, it will be available soon,” the developers promise.
Whether the number of tribe members will be increased, as many players have requested, depends on how much it affects the balance of the game. They are also asking for more time in this regard. Diseases will instead be slightly toned down so they don’t suddenly wipe out your entire tribe.
Lastly, the team is working on adding a mechanic that ensures that when you fight bosses with your teammates, the difficulty increases, but so does the drop rate. “So that every participant receives equal items,” it is stated from the official side.
