Those who do not like sand should look away now: For everyone else, “Sand” (PC) might be the most exciting alternative to the pirate game “Sea of Thieves” available on Steam.
What is the name of the game again? “Sand” – It features a first-person shooter that lets you control a massive steam walker alone or in co-op. You will need it to scour the desert planet you find yourself on for treasures and to protect yourself from other players.
The mech (called a Stomper in the game) will not only be your favorite means of transportation but also your strongest weapon. While there are classic firearms, they won’t help you much when attacked by another Stomper.
The game is being developed by Hologryph Studio, which last contributed to the multiplayer game “Secret Neighbor”. “Sand” has only been announced for Steam so far. It is still unclear whether it will be available on more platforms.

What do the devs show in the trailer? You can choose one of the pre-made Stompers, or you can build one yourself in an editor. If you are playing alone, a small or medium Stomper is advisable. Larger models offer more space but must be controlled by multiple people.
Since you will also fight with your Stomper, you should pay attention to defense when building it. Watchtowers can help you spot enemies from long distances, while mounted cannons provide you with the necessary firepower. The more modules you add to your Stomper, the slower it will be and the harder it will become to maneuver.
What does the gameplay look like? In the desert, you can complete missions that give you rewards. This could be ammunition for one of your cannons, for example. During your travels, you will also encounter other players and their Stompers, whose treasures you can snatch. The realistic look could make “Sand” interesting for those who find “Sea of Thieves” too cute.
