Whoever wants to buy a graphics card or build a gaming PC also needs a motherboard. The manufacturer MSI has presented a motherboard for which you have to spend as much as a complete gaming PC. MeinMMO explains what you get for that money.
What is the purpose of a motherboard? A motherboard is an essential component of every computer, and it is also installed in consoles. All important components such as processor, RAM, or graphics card are connected to the motherboard.
Now, the manufacturer MSI has introduced a motherboard that you can buy for 2,000 US dollars (approximately 1,750 euros). That sounds like a lot of money, as many users could already buy a gaming PC for that price. And this is at a time when even old graphics cards are worth a lot of money.
But what does a motherboard that costs as much as a gaming PC bring? MeinMMO presents the motherboard to you.
Motherboard offers plenty of features for 1,700 euros
What kind of motherboard is it? The presented motherboard is the MSI MEG Z690 Godlike. This is the current high-end model from the manufacturer, which also wants to charge accordingly for the technology:
- The motherboard officially supports DDR5 RAM, which is the currently fastest RAM.
- MSI installs an LCD display on the motherboard, allowing for system tuning or adjustment.
- With two Thunderbolt ports and PCIe 5.0, the motherboard offers the current state of technology.
- The motherboard otherwise offers plenty of cooling options like additional heat pipes or thermal pads to reduce or dissipate high temperatures.
- For overclocking possibilities, the motherboard even provides two power connectors for the installed processor.
MSI is not the only manufacturer that has such expensive motherboards in its portfolio. For example, manufacturer ASUS also offers a very high-priced motherboard with the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme. After all, you will pay “only” around 1,000 euros for the Crosshair VIII Extreme:

For most gamers, such a purchase is not worthwhile
Generally speaking, for all motherboards: The more expensive the device, the better the features. With high-priced models, you get a better chipset, more connections, or additional options, such as more accurate temperature monitoring. A Wi-Fi card is often not included with cheaper motherboards.
Why is this not worth it for many users? Most gamers are likely to be happy with a “normal” motherboard for 100 to 150 euros. Because here, most users get all the functions they need for their gaming daily life, as each processor of a certain socket type works with all motherboards of that socket.
Few of you are likely to already have DDR5 RAM or need 6 slots for M2 SSDs at this time.
The high-quality and especially expensive motherboards are worthwhile mainly for modders or overclockers who want to get the maximum out of their hardware. Manufacturers also target such models to streamers who want to showcase their hardware.
It is not unusual for especially streamers to spend a lot of money on their gaming setup. One even spent 30,000 US dollars on their setup. MeinMMO shows you what you get for such money. In the current situation, with hardware shortages, that setup might even be much more expensive:
